Skin Necrosis from Liposuction

Update

Instead of showing off my body, I hide it because of the scarring and indentation on the side of my abdomen from the wound that got from the liposuction.

I would suggest...

Read the negative reviews to determine if it's worth risking it - if you wanna be on the safe side ask if they have malpractice insurance because if something goes wrong and they don't have any it'll be hard to hold them accountable

Check to see how many procedures they do a day - another bbl surgeon said more than 3 a day can cause surgeon fatigue and lead to errors

Ask about the incision sites - that bbl surgeon stated incisions can be hidden he hides the back incision under the armpits

Talk about the post-op care - if complications arise how do they handle them - please don't buy into "it's normal to give it some time" if you feel something is wrong and you're not getting the proper care seek a 2nd opinion

Skin Necrosis from Liposuction

I was diagnosed with skin necrosis due to the liposuction done by Dr. Moises Salama for my Brazilian butt lift.
One day post-op the compression garment was removed and the nurse assessed my skin. There was a discoloration to the right side of my abdomen that was dark purple. The nurses and Dr. Moises Salama dismissed my concerns and said it was just a bruise that needed time to heal. They tried to treat my “bruise” with “oxygen therapy” which was them injecting oxygen to my skin by using a syringe needle connected to an oxygen tank with a cannula. A practice I never heard of or found articles on. When I questioned Dr. Moises Salama, he simply said someone introduced him to it from the office, which they continue to use because it had better outcomes than hyperbaric oxygen treatment.
My skin worsened it went from dark purple to black/brown with blisters. I was concerned it was a burn or dead skin tissue. I sought a second opinion with a dermatologist who diagnosed it as skin necrosis from the liposuction and recommended possible wound debridement and prescribed an antibiotic. I kept the nurse informed and asked her to notify Dr. Moises Salama. At first, Dr. Moises Salama said the skin was not dead but after informing them it was confirmed that it was skin necrosis I was simply told we would have to wait until the scab came off. Well, I went to see a wound care specialist who confirmed it was skin necrosis and determined it needed wound debridement. I started the process of having the wound debrided today.
Please choose a surgeon that not only has good results but also can assess and treat complications. I had to be my own advocate to get the proper medical care. I am just thankful I have not had any complications from the skin necrosis. I would not recommend Dr. Moises Salama. Also, be aware Dr. Moises Salama does not have malpractice insurance.

I am so sorry to hear this. Do you have an Instagram sx page so I can follow tour recovery. I currently am booked with Salama and now I am scared.
I don't use my Instagram. I will add an update in 2 weeks on here. I am scheduled to follow up with the wound care specialist. I hear you, I shared my experience in order for people to make an informed decision.
Thanks! I appreciate the honest review.
Sorry you went through this! His office is very nonchalant after the fact. If things go wrong, they don't seem to properly own their mistakes and be helpful/ accountable.
I agree, that is exactly why I got a second opinion. I did not trust their assessment nor their recommendations.
As a follow up to my message above, I just saw your pics -- the same thing happened to me but in a less severe way. I thought it was a type of "burn" this whole time. Nomi gave me hydroquinone for it -- that's pretty much as far as she went and I was also charged for it (add insult to injury).
I meant to reply to your comment please see my response below.
Wow, I am sorry to hear that. Really, hydroquinone is used for skin lightening why would they recommend it. The dermatologist explained if sharp cannulas are used, or suction is performed too close to the skin, damage to the blood veseels supplying the skin can result in loss of the skin's blood supply.
Thanks for sharing...we need to know all the possible problems. Speedy recovery
I appreciate it, I knew bruising was a known risk factor but this was a complication from Dr. Salama's liposuction technique
