11 weeks after - My butt is lopsided a little smaller on one side
So this is an unfortunate honest review of my revision BBL I had with Dr Dass. Let me start off with how nice Dr Dass is. He is super approachable very nice and answered all of my questions. I went into his office for a BBL. I had had one by Dr Matlock in Beverly Hills in 2008 but I needed a boost of sorts. While I did continue to have projection from Dr Matlock's BBL procedure in 2008...Which by the way was a great experience...I was getting hip dips and I spent a year in the gym and was on some thick body diet trying to fix them. I decided to get plastic surgery to do this. I was absolutely sure I wanted to keep my projection and even add to my projection. I was super scared to do the procedure being the fact that I am an ER nurse and know that this is one of the most dangerous plastic surgery procedures out there. Like seriously can kill you on the operating table, even with a skilled surgeon. So you are rolling the dice. I paid 15500 for the surgery which was almost the same as the last time I had a BBL in 2008. that time was 17500. I also paid 4000 for flight, hotel, car, and nurse to take care of me. I had to stay in LA 5-6 days, and I live in the Bay Area.
So I went in the first day to get my prep done and it was basic. Nothing special and the nurse was super cool. She made me feel at ease. The next day was my surgery. I saw Dr Dass and we went over the plan one more time. I wanted a big butt, and I definitely had the fat to do it. I had spent a couple months pigging out on food to get enough fat to transfer and I knew I would have to maintain this to keep what he transferred. Fair enough. I fell asleep and woke up to a nurse placing me prone in the back seat of an SUV. I was covered in fluids that was shaping out of 8 holes that were made in my lower and upper back, pelvic area and arms. I pretty much drained all day. I did not receive a followup call that night from anyone not the Dr and not any nurse, which I found very odd. I have had 15 plastic surgery procedures over the years some minor and some major but have always received a phone call and I always had the Dr's number to get ahold of him immediately. So the next day I was feeling short of breath and had a high heart rate 140's and some horrible chest pain. I went to Cedars Sinai Hospital where the ER staff placed me in a room right away for the ER doctor to look at me. After looking at my EKG he rushed me off to have a CTA which can tell if I had a blood clot in my lungs (one of the risks of this surgery, actually any surgery and liposuction). He also drew my labs and my test was normal but I had a high white blood cell count which was ok after surgery provided that I did not have a fever. I did not so they sent me back to the hotel. The nurse I was with called Dr Dass to alert him. I was emailing him all night due to poor reception/service with my phone. The ER doctor told me to come back a day before I leave to make sure that I was safe to fly home. I stayed in the hotel for the next few days which seemed like eternity. I was in agony from the pain and it was really annoying to sleep prone when you are so swollen. I was so uncomfortable, I vowed to never do this again. I also was severely constipated. So horrible it hurt. The stool softener they give you doesn't work. I was drinking water all the time and eating because there was nothing else to do. They day before I left I went back to Cedar Sinai ER and the ER doctor told me my liver enzymes were elevated AST and ALT. I new this was new because I had just had my labs done before I flew down to have the procedure and they were ok. He said I could fly home though. The next day I was at Dr Dass's office to the followup. I was so swollen I couldn't fit his garments to change into. The nurse there said I was "really swollen". He said I could go home but to continue to wear the compression garments. I flew the hour home back to San Jose on a yoga mat pretty much suspended and using my legs to prop me up because I couldn't sit on my butt and we couldn't get up the whole flight because of turbulence.
The next day I could see I was getting more swollen and every day after that it was getting worse. My ankles, my feet, my stomach, my arms, my face, everything throbbed from the swelling and keep in mind I still couldn't have a bowel movement that wasn't hard as a rock. Pain everywhere. I thought I am gonna die and felt like it too.
I called Dr Dass's office 8 days after I got home to tell them that I was still very swollen and they told me to send pictures in, which I did. The receptionist called me back that day and told me to just keep wearing the compression garments and that Dr Dass told me to go to ER if it got worse. The next day I was so big and swollen I was having a lot of trouble walking. I felt short of breath and sick. I went to my local ER where I worked and they thought I had a blood clot and they did labs again. My ultrasound came back that I had "severe swelling" of both legs and my platelets were extremely high at 622 and my liver enzymes were 89 AST and 86 ALT. The ER Dr gave me a water pill and told me to return the next day if it was worse and to repeat my labs and ultrasound in a week. The next day I was so sick I was vomiting and in excruciating pain. Everyone that knows me knows I don't cry easy and I was on my bed laying prone crying in agony. I was so swollen I could bare walk downstairs to get to my kitchen. I went back to the ER where the ER Dr gave me more water pills and sent me to have a CT scan with contrast, another CTA, and labs. My CTA and CT showed "grossly severe anasarca from a recent surgical procedure" "swelling of" my groin areas with hematomas. My liver enzymes were higher than 14 hours before and my platelets were 788. They called my primary doctor as they felt I was having liver damage. She sent me immediately (within 24 hours) to Stanford where I was seen by a liver specialist Dr Kwo. He said that after reviewing the labs, multiple scans and history I had "surgical induced Hepatitis". What a nightmare. I was told to follow up and have a fibroscan immediately to see if damage occurred. I also was told to repeat my labs in a week.
Here is another nightmare. My butt looks pretty much the same. I mean The liposuction looks ok. I do have irregular areas on my obliques and my arms still. And skin discoloration which looks like bruises and dark spots and this is 11 weeks now. My butt is lopsided a little smaller on one side and larger on other cheek. I still have a hip dip on my right side even though it is filled in a little. I lost my projection so my butt just looks wide. I have a huge dimple in my right cheek that you can see with gym leggings. My scars are gross. I have 8 total from the liposuction. One on my right arm is dark and raised and the size of a nickel. There are two quarter size ones on my mid back that area dark and gross looking. My lower back I have two that are between the size of a nickel and a quarter that are dark and gross. I will probably need laser to get rid of them. I was super disappointed in the results.
I reached out to Angela Dr Dass's Office Manager to explain the situation. She is really hard to get a hold of and both of us played phone tag for a few days before I actually was able to speak with her. She told me that my symptoms must have been from previous liposuction which I told her that there is no way to get Hepatitis from that. Plus my labs were golden prior to the procedure. She told me she spoke with Dr Dass and he had never heard of getting Hepatitis from surgery. I explained I was transferred to the care of a liver specialist at Stanford Hospital and that is his specialty. I looked it up and actually you can get it from Halothane or general anesthetics. It is called Hepatotoxicity. She asked me to send her pictures and I did.
She emailed me telling me I look "awesome". Glad you think so. I disagree. The surgery was not worth it. For all I went through I should have at least had a butt I liked. I am glad I didn't die. I am glad my labs a few days ago showed my AST and ALT at 22 which is normal. I am still followed by Stanford Liver Dr.
So my gripe is:
1. results not that good
2. I paid almost $20, 000. and that isn't even include the 4 ER bills, or the Stanford followup.
3. The horrendous pain (liposuction hurts people)
4. The annoying not being able to sit down and having to sleep prone all swollen. (6 weeks feels like a lifetime, trust me) I waited 8 weeks to actually sit down.
5. The terrible aftercare I received (no phone call day of surgery, no phones calls the entire time. The only time they called was to get my money, and they called at least 3-4 times for that...thats important... and when I called Angela to make a complaint).
6. Front desk receptionist is really rude.
7. I got Hepatitis (even though it looks transient, who knows if it caused long term damage or not)
