Drain Removal - Easy Peasy
Just had one of my two drains removed this afternoon, and I was really sweating it ahead of time, because I wasn’t sure if it would hurt or not. But it was really a lot of worrying for nothing. It was easy peasy. Just take a deep breath right before they pull it out, and let the breath out as they do, and you don’t even really feel it. So if you have a drain removal coming up and you’re dreading it like I was, don’t. You’re going to do great!
Other than that, things are healing slowly but surely. I’m now down 10 of the 15 lbs that I gained immediately following surgery from all the fluids that were used. So that’s a big relief that the weight is finally starting to come off. Overall I’m feeling a lot better, but sleeping is still tough for me. I wake up about every hour to and an hour and a half because I just can’t get comfortable on my stomach. I’m hoping as the swelling and bruising continue to clear up, that hopefully that situation will resolve itself.
My next follow-up visit is in 3 days, this Friday, with my surgeon. Hopefully I will get my last drain out at that time and possibly have the waterproof bandaids removed from my incisions. We shall wait and see. :)

8/20 Scheduled Post-op Appointment
Went in yesterday for my first scheduled post-op appointment (4 days after surgery) and was seen by two of Dr Hayes’ nurses who were both extremely sweet and knowledgeable. At one point, I started to get really shaky, and they noticed it even before I did and were able to sit me down and give me some juice to drink until I felt a little better. So I know I was definitely in good hands.
They did an exam and said everything looked good, but that based on the output I was getting, that both of my drains needed to stay in for the time being. Are the drains annoying and uncomfortable? Yes. Do I far prefer them to getting a seroma? Oh gosh, yes! Compared to that, I think I can put up with them for a few more days and wait till the right time to get them taken out. So until then…

IPL Laser Treatment for Post-Lipo Bruising on 8/19
The next morning (3 days after surgery), my bruising had gotten even worse, and was now a dark purple/black color. Dr Lani Doser, who owns and operates Skincare Rx in Portland, OR had reached out to me previously in the week to ask how I was doing after surgery (I have been seeing her for about a year for Dysport and other various treatments, and she is amazing), so I let her know about the bruising. She had a cancellation that morning and offered to squeeze me in to do some IPL laser treatments on the bruising to see if it would help, and the results were shocking! (see my full review under the Skinwise Rx page) I’ve even attached some before and afters for you to see how much of a difference it made only a few hours after the treatment was finished. I would highly recommend IPL for anyone who experiences the same level of bruising that I have after surgery (just be sure to clear it with your doctor first). Hopefully this will help to jumpstart the clearing process for my bruises and get me on the path to recovery.
