A Few Updates: Sleep, Meds, Draining, Compression & Bathroom

Sleep has been really hard.
First night I don’t remember much of, just random spurts of pain, lots of sleep, and bathroom trips.
Janine came up with few ideas but every time my bottom would touch the bed and I’m in throbbing pain again.
Finally on day three she put two pregnancy pillows on top of ea other in front of an armed pillow and folded a body pillow in half on top and additional regular pillows for bed support. (See photo #1)
I climb on the bed and get my bottom perfectly in the donut space and lay back.
Now let me tell you when those pain pills wear out and I need to get up in the middle of the night to pee, oh the pain and struggle to get out of bed. I did fall two times not having certain phone numbers of the gals helping that night, but no damage to myself.
Then day 4 the swelling of the ankles started and Wally (masseuse) told me to elevate my feet to release some of that, that’s when picture #2 comes in play.
Medications was a tough one for me as well. My pain tolerance is very low and unfortunately anytime I take any pain pills it doesn’t work unless I take high dosage. I asked for a pain shot that usually lasts a few days but Dr.Salama doesn’t offer that and Jesenia assured me that she will up my medications. Little did I know that I should of double checked because she forgot. I ended up having to take two (5mg) oxys and sometimes three (every 4 hours) the first two nights and before a massage. I know right, annoying and ridiculous that I’m such a baby and that it takes so much medicine to finally be okay. I tried to combine 1 with extra strength Tylenol but no luck. I would be crying because of the pain and burning sensation when I only took 1 pain pill. In the end it worked out because I was able to get a refill but it just was inconvenient.
Also one of the antibiotics that I took (Ciprofloxacin) the pharmacist insisted that it CAN NOT be combined with dairy, zinc, magnesium, calsium, or iron and had to be taken twice a day. That being said it was hard to take that medicine in the morning as everything that I ate had some form of something in it that I can’t combine and that’s when the recovery gals would tell you to take it. I would tell them about what the pharmacist said and they will tell me “it’ll be fine,” but I finally figured out a snack to take early morning around 7 or 8 with first dose of Cipro ( along with it: stool softener, second antibiotic, arnica tabs, & pain meds), then at 3pm I can take my iron and calcium ( also: Benadryl & probiotic) and then around 10 take the Cipro again.
After the first night we are expected to keep track of our own medications, which makes sense. I’m usually good about taking them on time and can remember but if you need to make a list or set reminders (on your phone or notes) I would suggest that because my roomies kept forgetting so I just started reminding everyone to help!
After Sx, you have two bulbs that are attached to your body ( one in the front & one in the back) that drains excess fluid that was used with the lipo and some blood. Draining is really gross the first night and then you watch the recovery gals do it for you enough times the first couple nights, that it becomes part of the the routine. Then after the third or fourth day you’re told to keep track of how much everything is draining by taking a picture ( I labeled mine back and front to keep the guessing work out) and then when you get two days of under 25 ml they can be taken out. For me the back drain was taken out day 8 and I still have my front one in (going on day 12). I’m going to see if I can get it taken out by a professional here in Seattle, but if not I will have to do it my self when it’s ready.
Compression is told to be really important. It starts on day three. I was given garment #2 after my massage and I honestly loved it. Made me feel secure and it was the perfect amount of compression, even though it was hard getting into the garment. Also I was provided with 4 foams to be worn on top of a taught tank top, to help keep garment impressions off of skin and add extra compression. I found that it’s important to use a tight shirt to keep from having lines and indentations from shirt on my skin. I wish I would of remembered to buy a size smaller like I planned on doing because it’s time for a smaller garment and I’m on day 12.
Bathroom for me happened on day three. It was really easy (this is coming from a person who is always constipated) but I think the combo of staying hydrated, taking stool softener, & probiotic really helped. I did what a lot of gals recommended to roll up a towel, add it under my knees, and kind of air squat. I did have to hold to the back of the toilet with one hand and and the wall with the other for dear life, as the recovery home has no rails to help with support, but other then that it was easy.
Also tmi: but wipe from back to front (but not all the way to the cookie) was helpful hint I saw on RS because them booty cheeks are to hard to reach and it’s so hard to even try to turn my torso to reach back there.
I also took shower after to freshen up, add my arnica cream to all the bruises, and then get back into the garment to do it all over again the next day!
I know, sorry, I had so much to share but I hope it helps anyone who has questions about any of these topics.

It all went by like a blur on Surgery day

It’s really is true that up to surgery everything goes by fast, and then after the time is going by so slow trying to heal our bodies.

SURGERY DAY: 10/31

I had my apt at 7am.
Alexis ( the recovery home designated driver) picked me up and chatted with me to help calm me down. Told me everything will be okay and I’ll be done in no time and he was right. That man deserves a raise!

I went in and totally forgot to start recording my journey. So sad I wish I can go back in time, but I was so nervous I was hyperactive to get my self through the surgery.
I met the nurse and she got my pee sample and put me in some sexy garments if I have to say so lol.

She then took me to another room and I met Dr. Salama, he’s a handsome man. He went over medical history and talked to me about the areas I wanted work done on.
We picked out the implant size which I wanted big.
I ended up with 750cc R breast and 800cc L breast.

He also started marking my body up for lipo and that’s when the nerves hit me but he was calm and made me feel like I will be safe in is hands.

He did go over things that can go wrong but he assured me it hasn’t happened under his care.
He took pre op pictures and then everything went fast from there.

The anesthesiologist came in. He was a handsome young man. He had me sign few waivers and then escorted me to the operating room.

I laid in the warm op bed then he tried to get my vain and he found one in my right hand. He told me I’m going to get an IV and I’m going to feel drunk, I told him I don’t like being drunk, he asked why & the next thing I know I’m laying in the recovery bed and telling the nurse I’m in pain. She gave me some pain meds through my IV. Then I remember being awake and the catheter being taken off and the IV.

Alexis was waiting for me outside as the nurse wheeled me out to him. I liked that it was in the back and discrete away from people seeing me.

The ride to the recovery home wasn’t bad because I was still on pain meds.

Stay tuned, I will be posting next about my experience at the recovery home and my first massage.

I can officially say I’ve been Salamafied!
Thanks for taking the time to read my journey dolls.
