My motivation is my family and I hope to get through this and have clear skin, this year has been the worst in my life and it all came so fast lots of cyst and skin colored bumps and black heads. I'm praying that accutane works. I've been on accutane for 40 days 40 mg a day don't feel like it's doing much.

I'm on my third month, I've been doing 40mg a day until this month which now I'm going 40mg one day then 80mg the next I too suffer from what you're going through, I didn't start getting results until about 2 weeks ago, it just takes time, so hang in there
March 20, 2016
Thank you for your support and that's all I can do is hang in thier and hope for the best. Hope the best for you too one thing I realized being a month and half on accutane u have to stay positive, because if u start thing negative it's going to be a long 6 months possibly longer if needed
March 22, 2016
That is true, plus you don't want to stress because that will activate the sebum in your hormone levels so you gotta do your best by believing it will get better lol, but like I just broke out with like 4 white heads on one side of my cheek they're like connected, but you usually have a couple before your face starts 100% healing so I believe everything will get better sooner or later haha

You are only on your first month, lots to come. I just started my last month and can't wait for it to be over. I started seeing results after two months and then a few breakout but now my skin is great. I had some facials done too but was very careful with the products they put on. I don't want to scare you but want to be honest. I have had some very bad moments where I almost gave up. I had a rash all over my stomach and limbs that took over 2 weeks to get rid of, severe dryness of my arms and nose (nose bleeds at least twice a week), I've had severe joint pain a few times where I could hardly move. I should have stopped but since I'm a medical professional I did my blood work every two weeks to be safe. My suggestion is eat healthy and stay active it's a tough road but well worth it in the end.

Thank u for your support, that's what I keep telling myself to just stick it out I just need to be more patient, im 2 weeks away from a full 2 months and I just started to feel dryness in my face.

The depression has hit me way too hard at times. But the end result is worth the work. The worse part for me since the very beginning is the dry lips and the cracks at the corner. No matter how much Chapstick I put its still there. But remember there are worse things in life. Be patient and remember that it takes a little bit of time. Also don't forget it's more effective when taken with a high fat meal.

Dont take accutane!!! It's poison! I was on it 13 years ago and now am forced to eat a
RAW diet and alkaline water because it damaged my gut so bad. Please research the drug. Multiple law suits have been going on for years regarding the dangers of the drug. A life of hell is not worth clear skin. PS...My derm kept reassuring me it was made for it, and it was "working" because my acne got worse, and I was getting tons of scarring. I would love to show you before and after pics from the drug. Just a couple years time in between each photo. You couldnt even tell I had ache before I used it. My face now is perm scared and gets terrible painful cystic acne.

I'm sorry for your painfull experience I hope I don't have the same outcome but I'm two months in and have no other options I've tryed everything else. But I would love to see some pictures
March 25, 2016
I'm sorry bout your skin and the damage to your gut, have you tried fermented foods and grass fed bone broth to heal your gut?
March 25, 2016
No I haven't but I will do some research on that thanks for the info and for your advice very appriated.

Everyone's body is not the same, we are all built differently. U had a horrible experience that does not mean everyone else would. I have friends that took it and they have no problems. I am in it for 6 months and I have had minimal side effects compare to other people.

Acne is the pits no matter the age. It is a long process with this drug and it will have many ups and downs but stick with it. As a previous commentator said, eat healthy, exercise and think positive thoughts. Your kids love you regardless of the state of your skin and thats all that matters.

Keep your head high brother!

I used accurate years ago and know several people including my daughter who had cystic acne and all had perfect results. You'd never know that any of us had skin issues. Stay positive they may up the dose which will make it go faster but more dry mouth :(

Hi,

I'm very sorry you are going through this. I struggled with my skin until I discovered Paula Begoun in my early 20's. She makes understanding skin and how to take care of it so easy. If you read her book 'The Beauty Bible' and use her website BEAUTYPEDIA as a reference, I PROMISE you will be able to finally understand and control your skin.

Accutane will help tremendously, so you're already on the right path.

The next step is getting on a proper skincare routine. The thing is-- you HAVE to be diligent. You HAVE to follow your routine every morning and every night, or you won't see results. If you miss a night, just pick back up in the morning and keep going. Don't get lazy or give up!

Follow this regimen: first, wash your face with a GENTLE cleanser from her 'best products' list on BEAUTYPEDIA. CeraVe makes good options that are pretty inexpensive and available at drug stores and shops like Target & Walmart. If your skin is naturally OILY, choose a FOAMING cleanser. If your skin is naturally DRY, use a lotion cleanser. Personally, I rotate between the two depending on how my skin feels daily. If I have been sweating or I've worn make-up, I use a foaming cleanser. If my skin feels dry or sensitive, I use a lotion cleanser. Make sure you rinse your face well before you apply cleanser and wash you skin, and rinse your skin very thoroughly. I rinse my face with 15 splashes, apply my cleanser and work it in for a few minutes, then I rinse my face with 45 splashes. This is time consuming, but it works. Remove any dead skin lightly with a CLEAN towel as you dry your face.

Next, apply a chemical exfoliant from her 'best products' list (her skincare line Paula's Choice makes GREAT options). If your skin is OILY or has blackheads, use a BHA. If your skin is dry and you have whiteheads, use an AHA. I rotate between them. BHA in the morning and AHA at night.

Afterward, apply a benzoyl peroxide to your ENTIRE face. Benzaclin is a good option from the dermatologist, or choose one from her 'best products' list. There are many options available at many different price points.

If you want to keep your skincare routine simple, just apply a moisturizer with SPF, and you're finished.

If you want to treat your skin a little more, try a serum, vitamin C or oil from HER LIST of 'BEST PRODUCTS'. You can also apply an eye cream, or just use your regular moisturizer around your eye area.

If you have any questions, please message me. Make sure you sleep on a CLEAN pillowcase every night and only use fresh towels to wash your face. Also, make sure your hands are washed and clean before you wash your face. I want to see you heal your skin. It is so life changing! Good luck, I know you can do it.

I was on it in 2005 and my skin looked pretty similar to yours. I was also bummed out and after 3 months saw no results. My dermatologist insisted I be patient and by the time I was done (6 month course), my skin was perfect! Yes I got the dry eyes and lips but that was nothing compared to the end result. Stay the course brother. It will work.
March 21, 2016
Thanks man I appreciate the positive feed back how has your skin been since then
March 21, 2016
Up and down. I had good skin for a couple years before it came back lightly but around 2012 it came back strong again. I did another course but this time only for 3 months before they took me off of it. My cholesterol got too high but that was mostly because I was pretty heavy (252 lbs), eating like garbage and not exercising. Well those 3 months cleared me up again so moral of the story for me is, when I've taken it, I've cleared up.

I see a difference in your skin. Make sure you take medication after a meal it works better. Keep in mind it pulls out the acne in many people first before clearing up. I to have cystic acne and have been on it about as long as you. I see a difference and still have some breakouts. But clearing up as well. Keep your head up! Read other posts and try some the positive things that help them and try it. You look great! Let the medicine work and stop worrying about the breakouts its part of the process :)

Thank you it's hard to have acne at 28 when all my friends and family don't I felt really alone until I got on this website hopefully I will start to see results I'm on 40 mg a day and I wiegh 190 so maybe it could be my dose isn't strong enough because I just started feeling dry skin last week but hopefully she'll raise my dose at the end of this month and I'll make more progress

Sounds low but I'm not a derm. I'm 44 and I have had it since I was 26 so I feel ya. My doc upped mine to 80mg this month so check into it.
May 29, 2016
Am taking 120 mg a day for 3 months now and that's my target amount and I weigh 175lb. The more U take a day the better u are. But the doctor has to gradually up ur dose so your body do not get a shock. And most doctors wants to see how ur body tolerates it first. That's why when u go to the doctor they ask u 21 questions on how u feel. Am glad u hanging in.
