I started this journey back in October when one of my clients and friend, who works with Dr. Justin Maxhimer, a plastic surgeon, mentioned the procedure.
I have always hated my neck. It doesn't matter how thin I get, I've never had any definition and never liked my profile because of it. I would love to seriously consider a neck lift, but since I've never won the lottery, that's out for me.
I went in for a consultation where Dr. Maxhimer explained everything I could expect, down to the very fine details. He showed me exactly what I was going to look like in a few weeks when I will be right in the middle of vacation. I opted to invest in a few scarves, and thank goodness I did! So a week later I was back getting my first series of injections.
He started with putting a wipe off tattoo with 36 dots on the target area of my neck. Each dot was an injection site. The best way to describe the pain was like a rubber band being snapped hard on my skin. It wasn't as bad as getting laser hair removal done though. There was a burn with each injection, and that was probably the worst part, and it lasted for a few days, ugh.
I puffed up like a giant bullfrog. It was sore and slightly painful, but somehow tingly and totally numb. When I would pluck a whisker it would burn. But the strangest sensation was shaking my head "no", and I could feel the waddle jiggling, but I couldn't feel it. It makes no sense! The swelling started to really go down around week 6-7, and I gotta say, I wasn't too impressed so far.
At my follow up appointment 8 weeks later, we decided to do 1 more round. This time it hurt quite a bit more. I think because I was still getting that burning sensation a lot, so it was kinda a double burn. I puffed up way worse this time also, maybe because I was starting out with a much slimmer neck. The numbness and full feeling didn't last nearly as long this time around, however I noticed a lot more bumpiness. I was actually starting to get nervous that it wasn't going away, but I'm now 11 weeks out of the last treatment and it's almost gone. Dr.Maxhimer and I decided that where I've ended up is a great place.
For the first time ever I feel like I don't have to have my tongue on the roof of my mouth, or make sure that I'm doing the "turtle" neck when pictures are taken! I love it and I couldn't be happier! I highly recommend getting it done before you go under the knife!
The pictures the doc's office took are way better, I tried to do my hair and make-up the same, and wore the same shirt so we could really see the difference. Sadly, my weight also stayed the same. But until I can figure out how to get them uploaded, these will have to do.
