Botox for TMJ - not necessarily a good idea, I have been diagnosed with ICR

ORIGINAL POST

Not Necessarily a Good Idea

I have tried Botox twice for TMJ pain to loosen my masseters. It didn't really improve pain or tightness. The last time I tried it was in early 2022. As of November of 2022, I found out I have idiopathic condylar resorption on my right condyle. This explains my overall jaw asymmetry and constant popping and clicking and pain. ICR is not well understood, but I suspect I have had the condition ever since I hady braces out at age 13. I'm 27 now. There is some speculation that Botox can contribute to the condition, because when muscles are weakened, bone density decreases. I don't believe I have taken it enough to make any difference, but it is something to keep in mind. Your TMJ might possibly be related to ICR, or an autoimmune condition, etc.
