Permalip Implants Gone Bad

I had permalip implants placed in June 2014. In the beginning they were great as time went by my lips wouldn’t stretch. My smile is very restricted now. I can’t even smile anymore. Dr. Eisemann in Houston did my surgery. I only wanted lip injections when I was getting my breast augmentation. They upsold me on the lip implants and I had top and bottom metal braces. Not exactly the time to get lip implants since you need to stretch your lips afterwards. I went back to him and he said if he removed them I would probably have more scar tissue and he did not remove them. I need help! I used to have a pretty smile but now my smile is ugly!

My doctor performed permalip on me about 2 1/2 years ago. He did a horrific job!! They were inserted too short. I had no lip mobility, ridging from improper placement of the permalip, drooling and asymmetrical lips. I went to a facial plastic surgeon 6 months ago. He removed the permalip, gave me a lip lift and CO2 laser resurfacing. I wasn't told, by my new surgeon, that I had any scar tissue. In comparison to before, it looks wonderful. My new doctor was wonderful!! I wish you luck!! If I were you, I would look for a board certified facial plastic surgeon. I would have done that initially, but I didn't know any better. Good luck!

Thank you for the info you gave me as to how you got yours fixed. I know I need more than them just removed. May I ask what it cost you to get them taken out, lip lift and CO2 laser resurfacing? Also were you put out or just local anesthetic?

Sure... I was put out. The total cost for the procedures were $6,000.00. It was definitely worth it - considering I paid $4,000.00 just to have the Permalip inserted from the first surgeon!!

I was getting a breast augmentation and only paid $1,000 more for the lip implants. I only wanted lip injections while I was put out but they talked me into these. I should’ve listened to my husband.

Did he use 4mm or 5mm? That can change the outcome.

I can see why you’re upset. I would research for a local reconstructive cosmetic surgeon and read up on them, look at their before and after pic for this procedure. I think you need to remove them and the scar tissue. It seems like you have a lot of scar tissue restricting your lips. Do you stretch them?

Yes I do stretch them but I can’t get them to loosen up at all. I want them removed and I’m sure I have scar tissue. I just want my smile back.

Where are you located? I know a good surgeon but is located in New Rochelle, NY. By the way, do not let that take your happiness away. You are still beautiful, but to be honest, who you are is what will define you...!

I also hate my lip implants! They are old gortex ones from 30 years ago. Want them out! Going to meet with one Dr. already had 2 refuse to remove them.

I met with a Dr. Who will take them out. He would like to add a little fat grafting to the lips afterword. Anybody have this done?
