Botox for Migraines

My name is Gary and I'm 35 years old. I live in San Francisco, Ca and started getting severe daily migraines about 3 years ago. When they first started it was less severe and it didn't progress in severity until the following year. I was on ibuprofen 800 mg (horse sized tablets) and Sumatriptan for the first year which was prescribed by my primary doctor. It didn't really help with the prevention and duration of my migraines. I had an MRI and had a referral to see a doctor at the UCSF headache center. It took approximately 6-8 months to be finally seen, and I've been currently the patient of Dr. Rebecca Michael, a resident neurologist for the past 9 months. The first appointment we went over my symptoms and she reviewed my medical history with me. We agreed to start Botox and stop my sumatriptan and limit my intake of ibuprofen 800 mg to no more than 3x a week once my Botox was authorized by my insurance. It took 3 weeks for the procedure appointment to happen and the first Botox round cut down my daily migraines to every other day and for not longer than an hour or if longer just dull and not so severe. The second dose seemed to work much better, and the third has been the best. Dr. Michael also had me start vitamin supplements at the beginning: riboflavin and 400 mg of Ubiquinol that also seem to work great with my treatment. If you're getting migraines you shouldn't wait for it to get worse and do seek care immediately. Because of Dr. Michael my symptoms are more manageable and I am confident I made the right choice with my treatment with her.
