Life-Changing Rhinoplasty

ORIGINAL POST

For years I had joked with my friends and family...

WORTH IT$9,000
For years I had joked with my friends and family about having cosmetic rhinoplasty. I had a very obvious dorsal hump on my nose and I always described my side profile as "carrot-like." I was too shy to turn my face to the side in photos and in public, and even head-on my nose was the largest feature on my face.

After seeing a local Ears, Nose and Throat doctor, it was determined that I had two things going on with my nose: a deviated septum and nasal valve collapse. Hearing this news from my doctor, I was almost relieved to find that my nose did have "issues" that caused my colds to be more severe in symptoms, frequency and duration because all of my life I had been prone to getting unshakable colds.

Not too quickly after that I was confident that I wanted to have surgery. I also thought about the shape of my nose and decided if I were going to have surgery, I mines as well have cosmetics, too!

I had done some research on surgeons, and once I read Dr. Lin's website and reviews, I booked an appointment right away. Upon meeting Dr. Lin, I knew that he was going to be my surgeon. He was extremely approachable, relaxed, and knowledgable. He was able to sense my fears of having surgery, and did everything in that one consultation to calm my nerves. For example, he took photos of my nose and showed me on his iPad what my nose could look like as a result of rhinoplasty. He also showed me before and after pictures of other patients so I could get a sense of his work. He assured me that the surgery would make a difference, but what I admired most about Dr. Lin was his genuine, cautious approach to the surgery. He told me that fixing my breathing was his upmost concern, and that what followed cosmetically would depend on my breathing. I did not look to make appointments with other surgeons after my consultation because of Dr. Lin's expertise and sincere and honest character.

Leading up to the surgery, Dr. Lin was willing to meet with me so I could show him some photos of what I wished my nose could look like after surgery. At the same appointment I remember expressing my worries for the surgery, and he was compassionate in talking me through the process and answering any questions I had. I always left every appointment feeling better than I did before!

I was also truly amazed at the genuine care Dr. Lin has for his patients when he called me the day before my surgery to see if I had any last minute questions and to assure me again that I would do great.

The day of the surgery, Dr. Lin came to see me and my family about 30 minutes before the procedure. He was willing to look at more photos and again assured me not to worry. My family and I were impressed that after the surgery he even came back to check on me in post-op.

If you are anything like me, the last thing you want to worry about is making those post-op appointments. I cannot express how professional and kind his receptionist was throughout the entire process, making sure my appointments were set up and changing them if I needed. In fact, Dr. Lin's whole staff is welcoming. His receptionist also answered many questions for me via phone and email, always reminding me that my concerns and questions are expected and natural!

A week after my surgery when Dr. Lin first took off my bandage, I was very worried about the swelling of my nose, which he quickly reassured me was not what the end result would appear as. Although I was very shaken up over the natural swelling, Dr. Lin even gave me general time stamps for when I can expect to see changes in the swelling. He was spot-on! About 2 months post-op, 90% of the swelling had gone down. Now, in December, my nose looks even more contoured, and will continue to change for up to one year.

I have taken photos each step of the way and cannot believe the results! When I look at the before pictures (from the day my bandage came off) to now (about five months post-op), it is a serious, beautiful difference!

Although my surgery was almost five months ago, questions and worries have come up. Dr. Lin was quick to answer any questions, see me right away for appointments to answer my questions, and provide unexpected follow-up calls to ensure I was doing OK.

I was once insecure about the shape of my nose and would not turn to the side in photos and even would avoid doing so in public. Now, my side profile is my favorite feature of my face! My nose has a gorgeous shape, and it's evident that Dr. Lin really listened to my needs. I now wear my hair proudly in a bun and do not worry about my profile. The front of my nose is also narrower and shorter, two aspects that I expressed desire for before surgery.

What I like most about my nose is that I still look like "me." I will admit, after the surgery I did feel sad, not because I didn't like the results, but because I felt as if I were mourning a piece of me in a way. I knew that this short-lived grieving process was normal, and once I fazed out of it, I entered the euphoria of amazing change in my nose. As the swelling began to decrease, I noticed features of my face coming back to life. I began to look like myself again, but better! Dr. Lin told me that he tried his best to "keep the integrity of my nose," which was evident in the sense that I still looked like "me." My friends and family have even commented that I do not look so drastically different that they cannot recognize me. My nose really is beautiful, something that I would have never suggested before my surgery.

I can empathize with anyone contemplating rhinoplasty, as it is certainly a life-changing decision. However, you'll find Dr. Lin makes the process not terrifying, but more exciting, stress-free, and worthwhile.

Such a beautiful, natural, elegant result. It helps that’s youre beautiful to begin with, of course.
Thanks!
How much was covered by insurance? About half the cost listed? Was it an open procedure or closed? Looks great by the way! Very natural.
Hi there! I realize this was a few years ago but I was wondering if you could share any more photos of the final after once the swelling has gone down? It would really help my decision - thank you!!
