WORTH IT
Dr. Y did an outstanding job on my face. I had previous facial surgery, with the burring down of a chin which unfortunately had a small golfball like '[RS bleep]' of bone on it, which make a improvement but unfortunately left excessive soft tissue which sagged and balled up on my chin. Dr. Y put in a small implant and was able to remove much the excess soft tissue, making a very noticeable improvement.

As a new physician myself, I spent a lot of time reading about possible procedures and came across Dr. Y's work, which includes multiple peer reviewed medical articles. He is absolutely a pioneer in the field of facial surgery, and his reputation is well deserved. I have noticed some people criticize that he tends to be conservative with his procedures.... from a cosmetic standpoint, again speaking as a new physician, I can tell you that you WANT a surgeon who makes a conservative approach, but a small one that makes a big difference (a small QUANTITY of difference can make a big QUALITY improvement ).... Otherwise you are very likely to run into complications, including undesirable outcomes, injuries, and deformities that cannot be fixed. Expectations must be realistic, but with realistic expectations, Dr. Y will meet and exceed those. I'd highly recommend him to anyone.

With having an implant after a reduction do you have scar tissue issues, mobility issues or feeling loss? I also had a reduction and am seeking a custom implant to fix asymmetries myself.

I definitely had some scar tissue issues, that was part of the bunching up of skin on my chin for sure. No issues with mobility or sensation (other than some numbness in the area I would notice when shaving, but that was it).

From what I have read an implant might be a good option to correct some asymmetries, but I personally did not inquire about a custom implant, I went with a 4mm small square one that added a small bit of anterior augmentation, but a bit more masculine like lateral augmentation. I'd email Dr. Y to discuss this especially for a female who generally wouldn't want a masculine like chin.

Glad to hear that you had a good experience with Dr. Y; I'm going to him (hopefully soon) for jaw and cheek implants. It looks like you had a really good outcome with your procedure, but is there any way you'd consider posting a few more "after" pics from different angles? Thanks

sure, I'll take some more and post them soon. I realize how crappy the one pic is, it was a quick cell phone pic.

How much?

I'd prefer not to say the exact amount, but between 5 and 10,000, and closer to the former.

Thanks so much for sharing! Do you have any recovery tips for others about to go through a similar procedure?

To be honest the recovery was not bad at all. I was obviously very groggy the entire day of the surgery. I decided to stay the night at the facility but I definitely could have gone back to my hotel.

It was very swollen the day after, and swelling peaked about 2-3 days after. The day of surgery and day after I only ate soft foods like oatmeal. By 2-3 days after it was uncomfortable to eat, but I could eat soft foods like eggs, beans. About 3-4 days after I was back to eating things like rice, fries, and even ground beef, but I made sure it was small mouthful fork sizes. After about a week I was back to normal. Swelling was mostly gone by 10 days.

I wore a compression wrap over the area basically non stop for the first week day and night, and I think that likely helped speed up recovery a bit.

So you aren't required to stay overnight at the facility? That's something I was kind of curious about... I'm getting jaw and cheek implants with Dr. Y, and it sounds like they really want patients to stay overnight at the facility, but maybe that's because jaw implants are supposed to be more invasive.

I was not required, but I chose to do it. It wasn't a bad idea, I just had to pay extra for a nurse to look after me overnight. She just checked my BP & HR periodically, got me fluids, and was very nice. In hindsight I definitely could have gone without it.

Your procedure will definitely be more invasive, but the recovery from anesthesia on the day of the procedure should be fairly comparable.
