DIEP Flap Surgery Age 37

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in April of 2013 and deciding to have a double mastectomy, I came to Dr. Lin looking for information on reconstructive surgery. He kindly informed me of all of my options, never pushing me one way or another. I was interested in DIEP flap surgery because I was looking for something more natural than implants. Dr. Lin told me that I was a candidate for this surgery, and after careful consideration of the pros and cons, I decided to have the surgery performed. The pros were that I would have breasts made from my stomach fat and skin, receive a tummy tuck as well, and avoid the discomfort (from what I've heard) of implants. The cons were that it was a 10-12 hour surgery and the recovery required 4-5 days in the hospital. Knowing that this was the best choice for me, I elected to have this surgery. I am extremely happy with the results and so glad that this was the route that I decided to take.
