I had been considering a breast reduction since high school; I was a 36DD by the end of high school. I found exercise was difficult and painful on my back. By my third year teaching, I was uncomfortable and began to become frustrated buying clothes; I was a 36G. Running is my favorite form of exercise. I would have to wear at least two sports bras and one of them would have to have underwire. It was difficult to buy bathing suits and all bras had to be ordered online; not too mention the bra straps would constantly be digging into my shoulders. I found the most pain to be in my lower back. I couldn't imagine what it would be like being pregnant with size G breasts.
After speaking with my PC she recommended I go for a consultation with Dr. Lin just to ask questions. Dr. Lin was fantastic and answered all questions I had. My biggest concern was having the surgery before kids and not being able to breastfeed after. Dr Lin explained that breast reduction surgery is a very common surgery that is done on many women before they become pregnant and they have no trouble breastfeeding after.
After the consultation and after being approved through insurance, I decided to go through with the surgery. The surgery is a day surgery. I went in at 7am and was out of surgery by 10:30am. After the surgery I went to the recovery room, which I had a bit of trouble coming out of the anesthesia. I was very nauseous. Finally by 3:30pm my husband brought me home. From there I was home for 10 days, Dr. Lin wrote me a note to be excused from work. I had the surgery on a Thursday and by Sunday I was going for walks outside.
The surgery was the best decision I ever made. After a couple of months I was approved to exercise. After the swelling went down I was a large C cup/small D cup. I feel absolutely amazing and have nothing but positive things to say about the breast reduction. It is easier to exercise, I have no back pain and I can just go to the store to buy bras/bathing suits. Speaking of bathing suits, the scars from the surgery are basically non-existent. You cannot see them when I wear a bra or bathing suit. Even when I am naked you can only seethe scars if I am laying down. The nipples look amazing and both breasts are the same size. I finally look proportional; part of me was worried they would become too small.
About 6 months after the breast reduction, my husband and I became pregnant. I was interested to see what would happen with my new breasts. They have definitely gotten bigger, so I am incredibly thankful to have gotten the surgery done before becoming pregnant. I cannot imagine how large and painful my breasts would be right now if I had not gotten the surgery; I am currently 6 months pregnant.
I encourage anyone who is even considering the surgery to go and have a consultation; ask as many questions as you need to. Best decision ever!
