Reconstructive Surgery on my Nose After Having a Basal Cell Carcinoma Removed by MOHS Surgery.

I had no choice regarding whether to have reconstructive surgery as I was left with a hole in my nose from the MOHS surgery. However, the reconstruction surgeon, Dr Ross, has carried out an amazing job. I went into surgery not knowing if I would be having a skin graft or a skin flap but in actual fact somehow the skin has been cut down the side of my nose and stretched over the hole. The result is incredibly neat and many people say that they cannot even see the scar as it is almost hidden down the crease of my nose. I am delighted with the result although I did not appreciate how much effort needs to be put in to carrying out a deep massage for 3 months following the operation to ensure that the scar tissue is broken down. I of course did not mind doing this as I wanted the scar to heal in the best way possible. I am glad that I put the effort in as the scar does not pull and feel tight anymore. Dr Ross stressed to me the importance of this deep massage and explained it was essential to the healing process. When I look back at the photos of my before and after I can hardly tell the difference. Cannot say enough how pleased I am.
