Abdominoplasty with Mrs CC Kat in 4 Weeks! - Birmingham, GB

5 years post op.
Still really happy with my choice to have this major operation, no regrets whatsoever. I enjoy exercising and running and my body gives me very few complaints when I do. I have learned to accept the tightness that I constantly feel due to the tight stitches holding together my muscles. If I do too many crunches or a heavy ab session, I get incredibly sore still, and sometimes a little swollen possibly. I feel that this is a small price to pay for all the benefits surgery has provided.

6 weeks post op physio appointment.
So today I had a physio appointment at my PS's clinic. The physio first got me to lie down and expose my scar (still taped), she said it all looked good. Then she had a feel of my tummy and straight away pointed out the raised bit I have on my right rectus muscle. I said I wondered what it was as it was so sore an swollen for weeks. She said it is scar tissue and it should break down. Possibly this is where "more work was done" during the op (it may be connected to my hernia that was repaired simultaneously). I also have a pucker on left side which she thought could be scar tissue from my c section. So you live and learn! I have been going a bit crazy worrying about my abs being asymmetrical.....
I then had to lie on a yoga mat on my back and she talked me through several exercises that I can do between now & my 3 month check with PS. The aim of these is to loosen everything up a bit more and help free the skin and aid its movement. I must say I do feel some relief after doing these gentle stretches tonight. I feel positive that I can resume some exercises (albeit gentle ones) to help get myself back to normal functioning!
Oh, she also said that I should not run seriously until I can do the advanced 12 week exercises well (at 6 months ish)....This makes me wonder how bad for my body the 5/6 miles runs that I was doing before were! Oops.... I SO look forward to a fully- functional core that I will get back to a better-than-ever state this year. Yippee :D
Having not been on RS as much lately, it is great to check out all you lot and your newsflashes. I find it surreal to think about what we've achieved in so little time. And, my prior self/body is almost erased from my minds eye. I feel so much happier in myself. Hope you all do too!

You look fantastic!! What a huge difference between before and after pics! Did you have back pain before surgery, and how is it feeling now? I've had a bad lower back for years, and now I have no pain. Yay! Couple questions: What is a physio? I know you are from the UK, so I am curious. It seems like you get much better treatment there. I would have much targeted stay at the hospital for the first couple days of recovery instead of leaving my poor hubby in charge of me! LOL Second, what were the exercises they showed you to do? I feel like I haven't gotten a whole lot of instruction post-op and I've had to figure everything out myself. A lot of trial and error, unfortunately. Glad to hear you are healing well! :)
Yes! What were the exercises? Would love to know! :)
Ah thank you! I think we r similar builds and carried our babies all upfront, causing diastasis ;-). I have had 3 checks post op up to now, physio is physiotherapisy- sorry! I had physiotherapy after both pregnancies to try to rebuild core strength too, which really helped but didn't do much for my linea alba :D. Feel free to PM me with an email address (and upnorthmom too) & I can try& scan my exercise sheet & email you so you can see the kind of stretches I have? Yes I had a bad back since my first baby almost 6 years ago and a dysfunctional core. Running undid all the hard physio work I put in despite wearing a tubigrip :-(. I feel so much stronger and supported now, like I am wearing my esbelt waist cincher, and back pain gone :-) hooray for surgery- it is life-changing!
It definitely is life changing!! I've never been happier. :) My email is skystorm15@gmail.com. Thank you so much!
I shall get on to it when my toddler naps- can't take my eye off him too long- potty training ;-)
No problem. I have a toddler myself. I get it. ;)
LOL! You should be getting an email soon....
R, I'm so happy you are feeling the benefits already! I am so excited for us!! Would you add me to your list, pretty please?
That is great! That is neat the ps had someone to go over all of that with you. I bet you are going to have an amazing summer!
Yeah I was glad to have the appointment- not sure it is standard in the UK? Mind you the price differs here a fair bit for TT! I am (for once) embracing summer this year swelling is welcome to climb on board too, as I know it will clear off relatively soon :D....
Oh...you are sucks an inspiration! Thank you for your update!
Thanks for thatupnorth! You are looking good for 2 weeks ;-) .... you have a tiny waist!
LOL! I just saw my typo…you are SUCH and inspiration. Not sucks! lol. I really need to proof read. ;)
Ha ha, I hoped that is what you meant (my brain auto corrected!). I have so many typos on RS, bit like baby brain me thinks- we are all obsessed with RS!! LOL.
Are u standing tall now?
My paperwork says my physio isn't until 11th may!! I might ring and check that's the case tomorrow. Seems really late to be having a 6 week check!!
Hi dipster, i am pretty straight now but still feel very tight in the rectus area. I seem to have areas of scar tissue on rectus, around navel and right groin that are so restrictive at mo. Don't know how normal this is?! How are you doing? May sounds wrong for your 6 week check...?! BTW, have u compared your before & after pics yet (would love to know about your progress)?x
I've just looked at my inbox and saw your message :)) I'm about to drop off having been awake since 2am
But will most defiantly reply tomorrow morning. Might even show you my pics ;) lol
Glad the physio was good, I don't think I am as "tight" as you are saying but am still having probs with my right leg. I was getting really hacked with feeling so tight and made and I mean MADE myself lie slightly flatter very night, and also spend an hour or so on my sides. Now I can lie flat with one pillow behind head and I feel much better for it xx
Yes of course MrsS! I shall attempt to send tomorrow (can i add an attachment on FB messenger??). I will even put a cherry on top ;-)

yayyyyyyyy!!
You look amazing! So happy for you.
Thank you my dear, so do you! Others don't look at you and think "swollen beast", but it is misery for you to live with, as is any other post surgery uncertainty. Onwards and upwards!!
you look great! Once you start driving, bet your recovery will go even faster as you will be out shopping for new clothes for your sexy self!
LOL. Thanks Flab2Flat! And a wedge pillow :D. Yes, I will actually enjoy buying clothes from now on (rather than hoping they hide my gut!). And no more maternity style tunics for me;-) Not long for you now....!!?
Ah yes and a wedge! Man, I wish we had emojis on here! I could so use them to emphasize the fun of the wedge lol. I barely slept last night, anxious about the surgery and imagining what it will feel like to not have that flab anymore.
mmmm do we need a separate post about this wedge pillow?? I am reading between the lines here and it seems SOMEONE needs to fill me in! lol....see what i did there...?
Naughty naughty!! Maybe Mr wedge can set up a profile of his own.... (or should that be Mrs?!). If anyone is wondering about the wedge pillow, read Flab2Flat's profile & ALL!! will be revealed ;-0 (I'm sue she would reply to PM's too, for a small fee....) LOL.
bahahahaha! That is great! All couples need a wedge I've recently discovered!
I'm trying not to over-analyze & most ppl tell me to wait until 6 months post see see the final product (im like 6 months, shooot) ...I have a few strange things going on myself.
Yeah, it's hard isn't it! You still look for daily changes, but of course there isn't going to be as much evolution as at the start ;-(...... Why, what strange things are going on in your lovely bod!?
Hey u look really good . Happy healing
Thanks ttlove :), how r u doing?
