30 Years Old Having 10 Year Old Saline Implants Removed - Birmingham, MI

I had 390cc implants put in shortly after turning 20. Before that I was a aaa cup, flat as a board with body image issues. I loved them for the first few years, they gave me the self confidence boost I really needed.

After about four years my cleavage started to show rippling on the right side, which got much worse after nursing 2 children for a combined 3 years.. and my right nipple kind of pointed off to the side a bit. I no longer felt confident in a bathing suit (it was tough finding ones that would hide my cleavage and still looked cute!) and the fact that I had plastic water bags under my skin was really starting bother me.

So after a lot of thought and research, last month I started the search for a PS to remove my implants. I choose a great PS who didn't make me feel pressured to have the implants replaced, and assured me I would not look deformed after. Fast forward to today, I am now implant free! They were removed with local anesthesia, and the whole procedure took about 45 minutes. I instantly felt a sense of relief when the first implant came out. It was uncomfortable at times, but nothing I couldn't bear and any time it got a little too much to handle they numbed the area up a little more for me. They wrapped me up in a compression garment which I'm told to keep on 24/7 aside from showering until my follow up next week. Unfortunately it was itchy so I adjusted it when I got home and what I saw underneath was not pretty.. So I'm going to wait at least a couple days before I post my after pics.. I can't bear to photograph them now! They look to empty and wrinkly.. I know I'm going to end up flat as a board again as I have very little breast tissue, but I'm really hoping my skin snaps back quickly!

Dear aaaple, God bless you for sharing. Try to look past the visual and focus on how much healthier you will be, being natural. I regret the day I had my implants put in 19 years ago, for what - to fill out a stupid evening gown. I am 61 now and just last week spoke to a PS. I have to quit smoking before they will set a date to remove them. So now more than ever I regret the day I started smoking, 31 years ago. I want the implants out so bad that I made an appointment next Thursday with a hypnotherapist to stop smoking. What a mess I've gotten myself into. We only have one body. You are still very young and you can overcome any obstacles you set your mind to. I'll be praying for you. Please pray for me.

Thank you! How long do they want you to be smoke free before your surgery? you can do it, just keep a positive attitude, and maybe pick up a package of suckers :)

4 weeks before and after. If I can do that, I hope I never smoke again.

Hello, My ps told me to give up smoking..have smoked for 40 yrs sad to say.. and kept putting off giving up smoking until I woke up one morning and said that's it ..cold turkey !! they tell people its hard to give up but it is not,it only takes 72 hrs and you are a non smoker just ignor the voice in ur head that keeps telling you to have another one.Good luck ,if I can do it anyone can do it,I smoked like a chimmey. I am waiting to have mine removed after 28 yrs, last 7 yrs of pain and suffering ..loss of vision fibromyalgia ..you name it silicone in the lymph nodes in my arm pits.. I need to get well,I am 58 yrs old and feel so unwell. Mine are both ruptured and excapsular, the silcon is through my chest. So have a go,72 hrs and you wont believe how easy it was..All the best .GOD BLESS. Kathy.

Very encouraging Kathy, thank you for sharing. My health is also a wreck, including serious autoimmune issues. When is your surgery? Jody
May 18, 2015
Yes also have autoimmune disorder, and also related to me that I may have giant cell arteritis which maybe causing my vision lose in one eye which is permanent. The pain in my temples is so bad and scared of loosing sight in both eyes...all related to the body rejecting the silicon in my body..ir is all a nightmare. I went to the public hospital and was with a breast surgeon and after saying I didn't want a replacement or lift he has put me on a wait list for a plastic surgeon which I guess is better than just a breast surgeon..so hoping not too long as I have stopped smoking 4 wks now. But with this new eye thing happening if it is not treated I can have a stroke and am now worried about any operation...It never seems to end..I met a lovely lady while waiting for my appointment at the hospital and she has all the same symptoms as me..fibromyalgia but had not been treated for anything..and her memory was really bad..worse than mine if that was possible and she was in pain all over.I cant understand how these doctors know how ill these implants will make us and yet continue to deny it. Good luck with smoking, just 72 hrs and you are a non smoker, and your body will heal so much better. I was going to go private with a ps but was worried if anything else went wrong I would be transferred to the public hospital anyway, I will wait for my appointment to talk to doctor on his procdure on removal as I want the capsule out and en-bloc to make sure as much of the silicone is out..so I can try to recover. I am in Australia and the system here is a little different , I can have them removed if they are ruptured in the public hospital free but if I want to replace it will cost $ 3,000. And if I go private it will cost about $ 16,000. I will keep you updated my friend is our age as well and had implants for 28 yrs ago and so sick as well. I will post photos as well when I get my op .. god bless....

OMG! I have the same exact thing happen to my breast yours and mine look exactly the same. My left side points out just like yours, identical! I was told the same thing that the pock was two large or the implant became displaced. I am glad to see that your after pictures show that your nipple doesn't point in the opposite direction anymore. I haven't seen a before picture like yours or mine before and I am glad to know i'm not the only one who had this issue. I can't wear tank tops or bathing suits at all, without feeling really embarrassed because you can totally tell i have some type of issue. However when i first got my implants they were never this way...the asymmetry just seemed to sort of happen slowly over time

it was awful, made it completely obvious that they were fake. I was concerned about how they would heal after removal too, hopefully they will look symmetrical once my skin tightens up. My doctor said that everything should heal up nicely, so that was reassuring too! I just realized my after shots are flip flopped from before because I took them in the mirror..whoops! did you talk to your ps about it? Did they think it will heal up nicely?

I hope you both got these out. I have to wonder why you left them in after the great silicone uproar 20+ yrs ago when they were taken off the market for being unsafe?? DOW had to pay millions. Everyone got paid and/or got them removed I think posts like this cast a negative light on the implants of today that are NOTHING like that awful crap they put in you. I wish you healing but also wish this was pointed out to those who may not know u have recalled implants and were told to get rid of them. I have family that was paid in the 6 figures because of theirs

These were saline implants.. placed in 2004. Not sure what you're talking about.

trying to stay positive

Removed the gauze. My right incision is a bit painful. And I keep hearing air bubbles when I move certain ways. I guess that's normal? My random chest gurgling noises along with how awful I look is making it hard to stay positive, but I know things will get better..

Air bubbles are called crepitus and are just small pockets of air that happen during procedures sometimes. They should resolve on their own within a couple days I imagine... ask doc if they don't. Hang in there!! allow yourself time to heal!

you will end up with nice breast. you are already nice for first after explantation day

Thank you!

I'm having mine out in TWO days, and I am really calm about it but know it is the best thing. I am wishing you a speedy recovery, and sending love energy that your chest will firm up and heal nice and pretty!

Thank you, and good luck with your removal!

listen! you are really small, you have a small frame, and you are comparing 1 day post op! Don't do this to yourself. Give yourself some time, and focus on getting better. Order a breast pump. I have read on this site that breast pumps help the breasts fluff up faster, read about it first but do order one. I will likely order one to have on stand by. Its not fair to yourself to look one day post op, give yourself some time, stay in a compression bra, and get on with yourlife. They will start to fill out, I've seen many cases on this site and almost every single one fills out but it takes time :) best of luck and stay in touch, feel free to inbox me. I know what you are going through!

I meant "really small" as in your body frame/chest wall. I have a small chest wall to

I haven't heard of using a breast pump to help the tissue fluff! I already have one packed away with the kids baby stuff, I'll have to google it later, thanks!

i read it for the first time on this site and it seems to work for a lot of people i've also read that if your nipples are kind of caved in you can use something called a breast shield and keep it in your bra, mothers who are breast feeding use it to keep their nipples perky if they get sucked in.
May 15, 2015
Even though you are only one day post op, you already look EXPONENTIALLY better than you did with the implants. Your nipples are pointing forward now! And what exquisite nipples they are. Focus on that. Your perfect nipples are thanking you for letting them be their beautiful selves again.
May 15, 2015
Thank you for the awesome compliment! I never thought of it that way, it really is great to have them both pointing in the same direction again!!!

day 3

aaapple
The gurgling sound is gone! Hooray! I had a few sharp pinc hung pains in my right incision site yesterday, but it seems to be better today. My skin has tightened up a litte. This much change in 2 days has me hopeful for what 2 weeks (and 2 months!) will bring. Reeeeally hope I "fluff up" like a lot of the other reviewers have... but it's not likely since I was so small to begin with. I'd be happy if the concave part filled in though!
