I went to see Dr. Patel for my migraines after a friend recommended trying Botox to treat them. Without luck throughout my teenage years and early 20s, I suffered at least one to two monthly migraines that knocked me out completely. I would be calling out of work, making a cave out of my bedroom, taking muscle relaxers to get the tension to calm down and dilate my blood vessels, nausea medicine, etc. I know how to take care of my migraines, but was beginning to seriously lose a quality of life that matters so much. At 25 I was calling out of work close to weekly for a month and having persisting headaches that flared into a full blown migraine with the slightest trigger for over a week at a time. After seeing Dr. Patel since the beginning of the year now, I have had only ONE terrible migraine, which came at the very end of a 90 day period the treatment lasts, so could also look forward to my other treatment soon. Any other headache experience has been mild and manageable where I am not calling out of work, or thinking twice about it throughout my day. I decided to seek Botox for my migraines because obtaining a treatment every 90 days instead of committing to a daily pill or trying a bunch of pharmaceuticals every day was much more doable for me. Taking a daily pill was a struggle while taking classes and working 60 hour weeks. Botox provided a great alternative not only frequency wise, but it works. Dr. Patel addressed this by starting at a lower dose and offering additional units within a period of time if need be. She checks in at each appointment to also track my symptoms, which have been great! She is a plastic surgeon but was very confident in discussing my symptoms of migraines and addressed this serious medical issue for me above and beyond my expectations.
Dr. Patel from start to finish was very thorough with making sure I understood my treatment. Her conversation, energy and bedside manner with me is always enjoyable. Dr. Patel's physician assistant Kiera is also a joy to have when I go for my appointments. I loved my experience with Dr. Patel with the Botox and was also curious about some small lip injections to just "spruce" myself up a bit..just to try it. Dr. Patel has completed this procedure twice for me and my lips remain VERY natural appearing where I get complimented on my appearance, but no one can tell, which is perfect. During this, Dr. Patel also got Kiera for another professional opinion and worked together. Dr Patel and Kiera work as an incredibly efficient team offering two professional opinions enhancing my experience completely. Aside from Dr. Patel's medical knowledge, her office is just an all round good experience- it is extremely comfortable with classy decor, very accessible to get to and all of the staff are wonderful from beginning to end of your appointment. I am so happy with my migraine treatments and lip injections. I feel better and look better.

Wow, it sounds like you found some relief, thank you for posting!

How many injections do you have and where? Along the neck and forehead?

I started at 35 units (jan/feb 2015) the first time, and then a week later received 10 more units after a break through the first time. I had relief the first round. Approximately 90 days later I got 35 units done by Dr Patels PA Kiera, and had relief until about 3 weeks before I could get my next dose so there was good improvement before the next break through at least with the 35 unit dose. Up to this point my injections were done in the glabellar muscle and forehead because it was the origination site of my migraines. The breakthroughs were not as bad after starting, but I still felt the pain in my temple area so when I got the Botox the next time I also got it in my temples receiving a total of 75 units. I am due for my next round in about 2 weeks (end of 11/2015) and have no migraines; just an occasional tension headache that is treated with Advil ..I used to dream of it being that simple !!!! The whole time I have been getting the Botox I am the same weight and eating habits. I am also covered through insurance but it is worth exploring for migraine sufferers without coverage for it.
