I decided to get Invisalign because my teeth,...

I decided to get Invisalign because my teeth, though straight, could use some minor twerking (I'm pretty sure I just used that word wrong.) Anyway I originally went into Dr. Dorfman because I had a gummy smile and the sides of my teeth seem like they have spaces. I saw one picture that almost looked like I was missing a tooth on the side because of the shadow and I was like, "This is it, something must be done."

I shopped around to MULTIPLE dentists in town. This one in Brentwood suggested a full mouth of veneers. What a money hungry you know what. I was so pissed after leaving her office that I looked up "Jessica Simpson Dentist" online. She has the best teeth IMO. It turned out that when she was doing the Newlyweds show she had visited Dr. Bill Dorfman so it was easy to find out who her dentist was. She's on his website too. I called the office and Sennette spent 10 minutes with me on the phone! I told her all about the veneers lady and how I was concerned about getting ripped off. I also told her that I had an appointment to this other dentist in Pasadena (I'm serious, I went to 6 dentists in 4 months for consultations) to have a bite adjustment. Sennette said STOP! Before you do anything come in for a consultation.

When I met everyone in the office they were great. Dr. Dorfman checked out my gummy smile and raised the gum line on two teeth on the side. He suggested starting off with Invisalign before we did anything else. He recommended Beverly Hills Orthodontics who are in the same building as him. I went downstairs and met with Dr. Monica Madden. She suggested opening up the arch in the back of my mouth. What I was seeing as small teeth back there were really just hidden teeth somewhat. The gap was from my teeth shifting. I'm a grinder so I found out that when you grind teeth down your mouth wants to adjust to make all of the teeth fit together in a solid bite. This was partially why my "gummy smile" was bothering me. Also your teeth naturally shift over time. I've always had perfectly straight teeth but alas, in my old age they have taken on their own deal.

This original consultation was about 6 weeks ago. It takes roughly this amount of time for the orthodontist and the Invisalign technicians to get together and create your perfect teeth on a computer program and then have all of the trays made. I feel very excited about the technology involved in all of the 3-D imaging of my mouth. This makes it extremely precise. Computers are very smart. They know exactly where to pull and push. My one little front tooth sticks out microscopically so that is being pushed back. The whole of the teeth are being pulled together so the gap on the side will close. The teeth that have dropped down a bit will re-adjust to create symmetry at my gum line. After all of this (and I saw the after pictures which was so cool) I can have Dr. Dorfman bond my canines to re-establish the structures that I've ground down. If I then still feel that things are too "gummy" I can have Dr. Dorfman very simply laser up the gum line to make them all perfectly arched. This is called "periodontal" work.

I didn't think that I could afford the Invisalign because it wasn't covered by my insurance. Beverly Hills Orthodontics let me finance it in house. I just make payments each month. I guess if I don't make the payment they don't give me my trays.

You get a new tray every 10 days. If you lose one, or if your dog eats it, it's $200 to replace so be careful! I picked up my first two trays yesterday and met with multiple members of the staff to go over various things such as cleaning and how the process is going to work. This is when I got to see the imaging of each step. I'm so excited.

One thing that was annoying was that the whitening foam that goes in the tray was $30 and the Retainer Brite and Sonic Cleaner were $50. I think that these should be included. If I pay $5000 it should include everything.

My current trays have these nodules at the back of my front teeth. These are for my lower teeth to rest on and open up my bite. I love it because it looks like an instant chin implant. Also I don't have to worry about grinding! I have a built-in night guard.

Invisalign day two! My tongue is sore from rubbing on them. They are kind of feeling annoying. I'm going to take them out and put them in the cleaner, then maybe have a beverage and put the whitener foam in asap. Supposedly no coffee or anything dark but I'm thinking a Diet Cream Soda will be okay if I whiten immediately.

More info about wear: You are supposed to wear them for 22 hours a day. If I go out to dinner I will probably not wear them out. You can't wear them when eating anyway.

Okay I'm sure this is all over the place as I'm trying to remember everything and it's total stream of consciousness. If you have any questions let me know and I will try to answer them. I'm still new to it all though, so maybe in a few months I'll have all the good info. It only takes 6 months. For me at least. For more jacked gnarly grills it could be a year. Might as well do it if you can. Just keep them really white. Don't let them get yellowy or dirty or your teeth will look nasty! The lisp supposedly goes away, or ith not notithable. I'm trying so hard to enunciate. It's kind of similar to ventriloquism. Speak from deep within and you will be heard ;) Good luck everyone!
