After 31 years of disliking my nose, I began my journey to finally getting it fixed. I spent months doing research online, nervously searching the internet for every answer to every question that crossed my mind, trying to find the right surgeon, weighing the risks in my head and of course playing out the worst case scenarios over and over again until I lost sleep. After all, this was to be a surgery on my face…an irreversible decision. The last thing I wanted was to become a poster child for a bad cosmetic procedure.
After months of this research, I came across Dr. Rahban's website and some reviews. I decided to set up an in office consultation. The staff at Dr. Rahban's was immediately incredibly accommodating and caring. Not in this false way that the cynic in me expected, but truly friendly and encouraging. Sally, the Office Manager, made me feel really comfortable and from my first office visit until now I never cease to leave my appointments without a smile on my face.
The consultation with Dr. Rahban was exactly what I was looking for. He was honest about the state of my nose and clear about the expectations that I should have post surgery. His realistic and honest approach made me feel like I was in the right hands. He didn't try to sell me on an idea of a nose that would never look right on my face. Instead, his approach was to fix the structural and aesthetic issues with my nose while maintaining my overall look. In other words, he wanted my nose to still look like MY nose…just much much better.
I discussed two of my major concerns with Dr. Rahban … the post procedure recovery and general anesthesia risks. Dr. Rahban was very thorough with his explanations and gave me all the information I needed. I went ahead and scheduled an open rhinoplasty and septoplasty.
When I arrived at the surgery center, the entire staff of Doctors and Nurses was beyond impressive. They were extremely proactive about easing my fears of the anesthesia and created a lighthearted yet professional mood right before I got put under. It seemed like two seconds went by and I was at home and recovering on my couch. Dr. Rahban called me from his cell later that evening to check on me and let me know how the surgery went. His positive tone and genuine enthusiasm on the phone made me even more excited to see my results.
The recovery was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Sure, it's not comfortable but I looked way worse than I actually felt. I took a week off from work, laid around, slept a ton and enjoyed the free time. The most uncomfortable part of the recovery was having to sleep with my head elevated for the first week and not being able to taste food because my nose was completely stuffed with packaging. The pain was not bad at all, especially considering my nose was broken during the procedure and put back into place.
After my packaging was removed I immediately saw the difference in my face. Dr. Rahban explained to me that my nose was extremely swollen and over the course of a year…yes it takes a full year for your nose to heal…my nose would slowly look better and more refined. Even on that first post-op appointment though, with my giant swollen nose, it STILL looked better than my old nose. I couldn't believe it. I would have been happy if it had stayed just like that.
I am now four months post surgery. I still cannot believe the difference. I know that I am still healing but I couldn't be happier with my results. The amount of compliments I receive have skyrocketed. The best part is most of my close friends and family could not put their finger on what changed. All they kept saying was "you look amazing…what did you do." Even in that regard alone, I see the procedure as a huge success. I still look like me…just SO much better!! My nose fits my overall bone structure but it's now straight, feminine and elegant.
I am so grateful to Dr. Rahban and his staff. I really couldn't have asked for a better surgeon or a better experience. It honestly changed my life. I am much more confident and feel much more comfortable in my own skin. There were moments where I thought "why didn't I do this sooner?"…but honestly if I had, chances are it would have been with a different Doctor and the results would have been undesirable. I'm happy I did all the research and waited for the right time and surgeon to help me with my nose.
My biggest heads up to anyone considering this surgery is this: Take care of your nose after the procedure!! Do everything that Dr. Rahban says to do. He will give it 110% but you have to do the same thing. Be careful not to bang your nose, don't pick at it, touch it, blow it, or wear make-up for the time that Dr. Rahban says not to. If you're going to take have this surgery make sure to see it through all the steps to healing properly. I've been taking very good care of my nose and the results are amazing!
