THANK YOU DR. JAY CALVERT FOR GIVING ME BACK MY IDENTITY
I've added more pictures of what I looked like pre-faceplant, pre-facial reconstruction surgery and 10 weeks post surgery. Additionally, I wanted to mention that my cost was for more than just Rhinoplasty - it was for Septoplasty and Fascia Grafting too.

I was referred to Dr. Jay Calvert from the Chief...
I was referred to Dr. Jay Calvert from the Chief of Plastic Surgery of a very large Los Angeles, CA Hospital. Dr. Calvert IS NOT on staff at this hospital, but DOES have operating privileges there. Although there are 36 Plastic Surgeons at this hospital, due to my case and the amount of cartilage damage I had, the Chief of Plastic Surgery still strongly suggested I contact Dr. Jay Calvert because of his expertise.
Because of this recommendation, I felt odds were good, that I would be in good hands. Truth is, with Dr. Jay Calvert at the helm of my complicated case, I have been in great hands!! Dr. Calvert has a great bedside manner, is compassionate, incredibly smart and a gifted artist with the scalpel. And in my case, he helped make me whole again by giving me back my identity!
On March 12, 2015, Dr. Jay Calvert performed a four and a half hour facial reconstruction operation to deal with my non-dental facial injuries and breathing issues. These problems occurred from my September 12th, 2014 face-planting incident on Pico Blvd. in LA, CA, due to a deep crevice and fissure in the defective sidewalk. Not only did Dr. Calvert perform (reconstruction) rhinoplasty, he also needed to repair my: crushed cartilage, deviated septum, nasal stenosis and saddle nose deformity. As well, he had to reconstruct the tip and the bridge of my nose. Additionally, the concussion I sustained caused an internal hematoma. I ended up with serious eyebrow ptosis (drooping of the eyebrow), which began encroaching into my orbital cavity, and this too needed to be repaired. In addition to having breathing issues for the first time in my life, another big issue for me was a daily reminder (whenever I looked in the mirror) of my facial damage. I have always considered myself very lucky for many reasons, and prior to the fall, one reason was to have been born with a pretty cute nose (if I must say so myself ?).
From my first consultation, and throughout this journey I have been on due to my face-planting incident, Dr. Calvert has been absolutely terrific! During my pre op visits, Dr. Calvert spent a lot of time with me listening to my concerns and fears and answering each and every question. When I explained the nightmare of my face-planting incident and started crying, he was extremely empathetic. I told him, all I wanted was to be able to breathe and have my old nose back. I also shared I was afraid I could end up with a pug nose or a ski slope nose and I didn’t want to look “fixed”. Dr. Calvert assured me that he believes in creating a natural look for his patients and that my new nose would fit MY face and be right for ME. He suggested I find 2 or 3 of my favorite pictures of myself before the accident and bring them with me to the hospital. I did, and Dr. Calvert took those photos with him into the operating room. Immediately after surgery, Dr. Calvert met with my husband and updated him. AND Dr. Calvert gave my husband his cell phone number and told my husband not to hesitate to call him anytime, should we need him! I was released from the hospital to go home on a Friday. Dr. Calvert called to check up on me on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. He sees you often for post op visits and monitors your progress and again answers each and every question. Dr. Calvert prescribes Arnica Montana 7 - 10 days before the surgery and Arnica Forte after the surgery, which was extremely helpful for swelling and really helps you heal faster. He also has you tape your nose (and teaches you how once stitches and the splint come out) for months after the surgery. FOLLOW HIS INSTRUCTIONS. There is a reason he has you do the things he has you do. I honestly believe the taping made a difference! Additionally, his PA (Physician's Assistant) Orla, is also very smart and very helpful. She'll call you back if Dr. Calvert is with a patient or in surgery and can't get to the phone, and she usually knows the answers to most questions. His office staff are incredibly helpful with paperwork and scheduling issues, and are also very polite. I will be returning to Dr. Calvert to deal with some of the permanent scarring issues I had from the faceplant. But before that can happen, I need to finish my oral surgery - I am in the middle of the dental implant process.
I am thrilled with the outcome of my surgeries!! Within a few weeks, my heavy breathing and snoring had stopped. And by 3 months, people who knew about the fall, told me I looked like my old self prior to the September 12th, 2014 face-plant incident. To me, that’s the biggest compliment I (or for that matter Dr. Calvert) could get. Thank you Dr. Jay Calvert!!! I am extremely grateful to you, for putting me back together again and allowing me to regain my identity!!!
