Microneedling Made my Skin Look Worse

First off, let me say that this procedure was the most painful procedure I've ever had done. I'm not sure if they just didn't use enough numbing cream on the first 2 treatments, but by the 3rd treatment I took matters into my own hands and applied the numbing cream myself. After reading online how it should be done, I applied the first layer generously and let sit for 30 minutes, wiped it off and applied another generous layer and let that sit for 45 minutes. I also took a Xanax to help me relax. If only I had this information on the first visit, I would not have had to endure the (almost) unbearable pain I felt.
After my first treatment I was quite red and swollen for a few days and was actually pleased with the results. I should have stopped there. The next two treatments didn't seem to make any positive difference in my skin. The only thing it did do was give me little bumps underneath my skin which makes it look even more wrinkly and old. My neck looks horrible. I have track marks that won't go away and I'm not sure what to do about it, if there is anything I can do at all.
After spending that amount of money to only look worse, I would not recommend this treatment to my worst enemy.

I had it done at Rodeo dermatology in Beverly Hills. My skin hasn't improved. I still have marks from the needles that make my neck look bumpy

How are you now?

I still have visible bumps on my neck and upper lip that seem to be permanent. I wish I would have never had it done. It was supposed to regenerate collagen, but left scars instead.

you might wanna try peels once every two months along with heavily moisturizing the effected area. it might take a couple years for it to completely go away. depending on how deep the damage is. you have to sluff off the effected skin and that might take a while. hope you see improvements soon

Thank you, Goddess. I was actually thinking about getting a laser peel, but I'm so afraid to try anything else at this point.

Hi there ,

I wish all the luck to you in this !!! I experienced something such a week ago and my skin is healing slowly though I don't know if it will fully heal ever . Did you go for any peel treatment to correct the mishap ?

I agree! Wow this procedure sucks and is painful. I had it done 2 days ago I won't do anymore. My skin looks bad and now I have eye bags. She kept going back and forth over my tear trough. Now I'm bruised. Yeah I'm done with microneedling.

Oh I'm so sorry this happened to you. I have similar issues. Do NOT do laser. Stay really hydrated and be kind to your skin. I wouldn't do a peel either. Let your skin heal, it does not need more damage at this point. I will let you know if I find anything that works, but I've been using a lot of healing things - manuka honey, vitamin c, bio oil, and taking hyaluronic acid pills and eating gelatin every day.

Why do you say don't do laser? Did you have a bad experience with it?

Yes sadly I had damage from both laser (IPL which is supposed to be the most gentle) and microneedling. The damage from IPL was far worse than microneedling and left me with fat loss under the skin and weird puffiness in places. I had microneedling with PRP after IPL because I thought it would help improve my skin tone and it’s now worse. Do a lot of research into lasers, so many faces have been ruined and I think the positives are less common than your lead to believe.

I’ve also done numerous chemical peels and while I’m not sure they helped much, at least they didn’t cause additional damage. I would start there if you really want to try something strong. But after all I’ve been through I’m starting to believe that some ppls skin just doesn’t regenerate under controlled damage like docs say it will. My new thinking is that the best thing we can do to our skin is be very gentle and kind to it. It sounds so tempting to think we can just kill off the old skin and perfect skin will be underneath with no other complications or damage but I don’t buy it anymore.

Maybe do a gentle chemical peel? I know you want to feel like you are doing something to help correct this, I totally totally get it but just be really cautious.
