I don't recommend this procedure or this doctor. I look older and odd. I have Droopy wide muscular rectangular face with deep nasolabial folds. When I smile, I see a line above my upper lips and deepest nasolabial fold. Bunching of cheeks under eye when I laugh and look disgusting. My nostrils moves or stick together when breathing hard. All of these happened after this surgery by Mark E Richards Bethesda. I feel very uncomfortable and tight when smiling, chewing solid food,..
Scars inside the mouth are very thick and irregular. I have to live like this for rest of my life and I paid for it too! Stay away

So sad to hear your experience.

I so very sorry. This is extremely unfortunate. Hope your face will recover these next months.
July 17, 2017
Thx for your comment, it's a year and I'm disfigured and in pain for life. All doctors I spoke to said this. Pls do not trust whatever you hear before any surgery! I was loed by a doctor for money!

thank you so much for your testimonial ! I was considering this procedure, but after reading your review, I changed my mind. Thanks to you, and your courage and time to alert us. I really hope you can finda solution,, maybe seek a honest surgeon to help repair the damage.
October 27, 2017
Thx for your comments. Hope never happens to anyone else but I saw 2 other people posted negative reviews for Mark Richards.

I had a sudden facial edema and weight gain and lost all of that in less a month bc of hormonal issues. I ask for a cheek lift also known as mini face-lift because I had very small amount of excess skin on the side of my face and all my communications with Mark Richards shows it, no where is said Subperiosteal Midface lift.
That's all I wanted
March 23, 2018
Thanks for your review. I was considering this procedure at one time and even had a consultation with Dr. Richards. Ultimately, I decided against it because I did research and found that a subperiosteal cheek lift can result in nerve damage, and also because there were a lot of negative reviews regarding the procedure in general. But I still have the problem of nasolabial folds and filler doesn't abate them enough. So I'm not sure what to do. Sounds like a cheek lift is definitely not the answer.

Hi Irishgirl, as a person who has had two procedures, eyes, mid-face lift, I would advise against doing anything. Most surgeons are not skilled enough for facial surgery. People forget right hand or left hand dominance. For this reason one side of my face looks different to the other, noticeably. Plastic surgery is a con, the doctors lie to your face, are obsequious and charming until they get your money. Afterwards when you need them the most, they dump you and tell you that you look fine, when everyone else is wondering what happened. I was very beautiful, now I look 15 years older than I am. I have lived 10 years with EXTREME regret. Love yourself for who you are. Peace.
August 26, 2018
That's true, they lie to get the money. May I ask you when you got midface lift and if it changed in any good way? Thx
August 26, 2018
Stay away from This scam business. You'll regret. Richards ruined many lives, I got so many of his patients contacting me about nerve damage after implant, neck deformity, nose....

I wish I could see negative reviews. They speak my experience word by word. I was misled & misinformed by Mark E Richards. I did not ask for this surgery. Is there anyone with similar experience who can help me?

It sounds like you should be seeking legal help. This sounds terrible. You need a lawyer!
May 31, 2017
I know but I wish it was that easy. Unfortunately what people don't know including me before this, is tgat laws protecting doctors not patients and lawyers only take death cases! Its been a long time and pain tightness disfigurement here to stay.
October 19, 2017
Have you confronted the doctor in his office? Have you mailed a written letter of complaint to his office detailing your pain and damage with the time lines, including any and all second opinions of your case? I would not go quietly if you have been physically damaged, and/ or aesthetically damaged. The power of the internet, social media, blogs, twitters, YouTube, yahoo, etc puts the patient at an historically unrivaled advantage. It will be difficult, but try to take back some of your power. He owes you monetary damages at the very least.cwhat did you mean when you referenced that " you did not ask for this surgery" ????
October 20, 2017
Thx for your comment. I did tell him and he's just rude and said not my problem. Doctors are protected not patients. I have written proof and I can't do anything. His other patients who contacted me, couldn't sue him being deformed, permanent nerve damage... This is not doctor patient matter, it's a scam. Ask any other person with botched surgery and see if they could do anything. Talked to many lawyers and they told me how cosmetic surgery doctors are very away with everything even murder. For bad Reviews, they can pay 100 bucks to hide them from browsers or leave 10 positive reviews for each negative one so they won't show

I honestly think your cheeks look great. I must be missing something. I can't find my reply on here that offered for you to look at my before and after pictures on my profile (please check it out) as I had a very different experience with this doctor, as have several of my friends going to him now, with great results for cheek lifts, breasts, facelifts. Not to be controversial only helpful and respectful, but have you considered looking into body dysmorphia as a reason for your dissatisfaction? People with that are never satisfied with results of any surgery and often have unrealistic expectations. Not saying that you do, but it may be worth considering. Please take this as a constructive suggestion. Women would love to have your cheeks. Actresses and models especially. Like I said, you look great. Body dysmorphia would be a great topic for this platform and I've heard it is not uncommon.

I am absolutely not a fake review, just because you don't agree with my opinion and experience with the same Dr. I posted pictures of myself which are open for anyone to see on my profile, because I love my result. Period. I would never refer my friends or anyone else to someone I didn't think was excellent. Cosmetic surgery is a big deal and something my friends and I in our 40's are just now exploring. I offered an opinion and advice to you since you seem to think yours looks terrible, which I still don't understand (because you look great!). I get notifications when you update your review and I did find your language unusual when you posted last week claiming that lawyers have told you that Drs. literally murder people and get away with it. I find that extreme and disturbing. As a patient, I have every right to reply to your review and to write my own reviews of any Dr. that I have been to.

What an insulting, passive aggressive comment "suggestion". I am so sorry for her experience. If you are not, then just keep it to yourself. She doesn't need you to add to her suffering.

Yours or a surgeon’s opinion of what a patient should want to look like are irrelevant. It’s not your or their face. There’s no way a nose caving in can be justified, even by a planted comment pretending to be reasonable.

Reading & seeing these posts on here over a period of time I think I look fine, don't need to be distorted so that feel I must hide, take someone to court or suffer in any way. I'm amazed some people go to foreign countries to have important procedures. Scary enough right here at home.

Have you tried getting your money back? Some people have posted on here that they got refunded for a botched job. By the way, I honestly feel you did not need PS based on your before picture. You looked young and your cheeks had youthful lift in them.

Disfigured and no doctor that can help

Don't fall for positive reviews or what you see online. I thought since the doctor is in business, I can trust him and his words, I was wrong.
everyone wants your money and no one cares about why you paid him.
Not the pain nor the regret ends. I got rubbed and injured legally by this doctor.

Why did you have a midfacelift? Your before picture looks like a great result for a midface or cheek lift. It seems like when patients have surgeries they didn't need in the first place this is what happens. Sorry, to be so direct but I can't see anything that you needed changed on your face.
May 14, 2017
I didn't ask for a Midface lift. Unfortunately I got scammed. I knew myself I had big cheeks myself so never asked for this but was lied to by this guy and his assistant.
May 14, 2017
What you misunderstood about surgeries if you ever had one, patients hear different things before and after their surgery and my case is a medical negligence or worse. The only thing mark Richards took seriously was collecting my hard earned money!
May 14, 2017
Ok, so when you had your consultation what procedure did you ask the Dr. for?
May 17, 2017
Yes more details please

My review was removed by Realself after writing about what happened so I'm not gonna write so much here but you can look at this posting also done by Mark Richards https://www.realself.com/question/lower-eyelid-still-drooping-after-months-post-op I can post links of other websites
June 7, 2017
No point with this question other than to make her feel worse. She already did it so why ask why she did? I hope that you can find some resolution, sending good wishes :)
June 7, 2017
Thx
June 7, 2017
I merely wanted to know what procedure she asked and paid for. She said that she didn't ask for this surgery, so what surgery did she ask for? I feel for her that she doesn't like her results but it is important to note that this is what happens when a patient gets surgery when it is not needed in the first place. A bad result. And she is right that Dr,s will take your money even if you don't need it.

Look at this link and you see I'm not the only one. I can't post links ffom ither website here but this is typical for this doctor https://www.realself.com/review/richards-bethesda-incompetent-refuses-acknowledge-mistakes

I'may afraid tof try anything! Don't understand women who leave the country to save money on procedures (not you). Too much can go wrong. Take care of what you have!
June 9, 2017
Because doctors are not honest about the risk and recovery. In my case i was lied to and scammed. This doctor has a reputation of it as i keep getting connected by his patients who were told the same lies or asked for anotyer thing and got something else. Hard to find trustworthy ppl so be careful.
June 8, 2017
my comment didnt post to the correct question, I was refering to the question where you asked why did she do anything and that her face looked fine before, and this can happen when people do work that they dont need. This is the last thing someone who had plastic surgery and it went wrong wants to hear and its pointless its already done.
June 9, 2017
Thx, that's true. Like being disfigured, losing a big money and wasting lots of time and being in pain for a year wasn't enough! But i know doctors and their assistants some times put nasty comments too so i was prepared for the worst.
June 8, 2017
I cant understand why you keep saying this is what happens when someone gets surgery thats not needed? How do you know if its needed or not? Its her face if she doesnt like something then its needed. Its a personal choice, and no not all drs just will take your money. What have you had done?
June 9, 2017
At a young age, i had sever edema and then i when iy was gone my skin was streyched, I asked in writing for skin removal and pulled my skin in front of him multiple times, they said this surgery gonna do a lot for me and they even gave me a quote for neck lift at a very young age 32 with perfect neck and said this is the only way you surgeries done (lie) i said no way i need a my neck cut when it's as good as a baby neck, so i went for cheek lift for skin removal without neck lift. After surgery i asked him give me my op report as sth is not right. He wrote patient asked for volume in upper cheek! (lie). I was told recovery is short a week to 3 weeks. After surgery they said 1 month then 6 month then a year. I asked other doctors in Realself and everyone says this surgery is not at all for skin tightening or has anything to do with skin and it takes a year to heal and is very intensive and old school! Lies and scam
