39 Years Old, Finally Took the Plunge After 20 Years! - Bath, UK

Hello fellow BR girls - I just thought I would...

Hello fellow BR girls - I just thought I would write a short review as this site has provided me with so much info (and is continuing to do so now that I'm living the dream as it were!) So, I'm 8 days post op - I had the op on monday Sept 15th, and the surgeon removed 1 lb from each side, taking me from a 32 F/G to what will hopefully be 32 C in the end. Surgery went well, 3.5 hours, very weird experience falling asleep in theatre and literally waking up what felt like the next second all done and dusted! Spent two nights in hospital, drains came out on the tuesday evening (uncomfortable but over in a flash) and been recovering at home since. Pain not too bad at all and now being managed just on painkillers (and a glass of wine in the evenings!). The most difficult thing so far has been mental adjustment. I know it sounds ridiculous and I absolutely don't regret it - but it's quite strange having lived with those puppies for 25 years, and now they have been replaced by these frankenstein looking (albeit tiny) monsters!! I only plucked up the courage to look properly today (been cleared to shower and was very nervous about getting them wet), and was properly horrified! BUT. I've been advised lots and lots that they will look awful to start with and that they will start looking better really quickly. I was worried that I've gone too small - but again I think they are just flat and square - and will seem a bit bigger when they regain their natural shape. Any advice on all the above welcome! I do feel really light though, so FABULOUS not having to wear a bra! (My surgeon differs from most in that she doesn't like her patients to wear a bra for a around two weeks post op. So now I just have gauze lightly covering everything. Weird! Any questions I'd be delighted to give advice and help - be lovely to hear from other ladies who are at similar stage to me post op as well. Will post a couple of pics when I can work out how to keep them off the photo stream (and therefore appearing randomly on my TV!) Hope this review helps someone - Jules X

I just had breat reduction. From the top breast looks small. However on the bottom is looks really big and unshapely. Can't wait for the swelling goes down. Went from size 34 L to hopefully according to my doctor a 34 C. Congrats on taking the plunge.

And you Julene! I've been told a few times that they can take a good few months to settle down, it's hard not to worry though isn't it? Hi Paytond - I had my BR partly to ease back pain too. All I'd say is that all the surgeons I spoke to said it was their favourite procedure to do as it made such a difference to the lives of their patients. I think G- D is really sensible, and just keep in mind that it would be a few months of upset to make the rest of your life easier and more pain free?

I wear a 42 g thinking of reduction after being advised by Dr do to chronic back issues. Scared to death. Wanna keep at least a d cup any suggestions

I am having my surgery in December and will be going from 32G to a C/D as well. Please keep us updated on how you're doing. I too am getting a little nervous about how I will feel to look down and see small breasts having lived with such a large chest for so long. I know it will be great and give me hopefully relief from my neck and back pain but still it's strange to think about them being so much smaller!!!

Went from DDD to a C cup and also wondered if I went to small but 3 months out I am thrilled. They will sag a bit and look more natural after a couple months. When I wear a lightly padded bra and look in mirror I think it's perfect. I think after being so large it's just going to take a little getting used to. Give it a bit of time.

Right, hope these are helpful either for compare / contrast purposes or to give you an idea what you should expect! Don't know if I've just got over the shock, but they do seem slightly less horrific today. Far less pain than you'd imagine from the pictures...

Hey Jules. Who did your op? I'm having Mr Mercer in Bristol but I know he also works in bath. I'm going from a 30F to??? on the 7th of October so really interested in your review and your boobs look FAB. :) happy healing.

Hi there - sorry for not posting surgeon details, I wasn't sure if it was mostly a US site! Will update now, but Judy Evans at Circle Bath - she is incredible, and on the board of plastic surgeons. Can't recommend her / and the hospital enough. I just felt so much more comfortable having a woman operate on me for this kind of procedure. That might be irrational, but I'm sure you'll get where I'm coming from! Not sure they look fab yet but your support means a lot :)

Great result, well worth the scarring that will improve over time. Enjoy all the lovely things you can wear now

Thanks Peedie - very sweet of you. I will enjoy all the lovely things I can wear now - as soon as I can get them over my head! Suddenly in pain on my righty today, am hoping its just due to over doing it yesterday rather than an actual problem... Just read your journey - so helpful to have all these other fabulous and brave ladies to help along the way X

Safer to step into things and pull them up than to put them on over your head at this stage!!!!

Hey I'm having my reduction with uplift on the 4th October at the Highgate hospital in London. I hope it all goes well. Can I ask have you lost the sensitivity in your nipples?
September 26, 2014
Hi Nicolaf - best of luck for your op! No - it came back almost straight away. I do have some loss of feeling underneath them at the moment, although it can take a few months to return as I'm sure you've heard. Anything else you need to know feel free to drop me a line :)

Thanks, I hope it all goes well to. I'm excited but nervous as well. Some of the pics I've seen look horrific. But I know that it will be worth it on the end. X

11 days post op - hurty and tired!

So having a bit of a dip today. My righty really hurts and there is a bit of extra redness, not sure if I've stretched too far or what, but it's a bit worrying. I had my first trip out yesterday which was great but think I pushed it a bit too far. Still on the paracetamol when lots of people seem to have only needed for a few days post surgery - but nurse keeps emphasising I should take them so it must be normal? Onwards and upwards!
