Bad Rhinoplasty Experience
I had my rhinoplasty done with Mr. Shoaib three years ago at Berkeley Square Medical in London. I had a lot of faith in him based on before and after pictures I had seen online, however my experience was not a good one. I left it so long to write a review because it's quite an upsetting experience that I try to avoid thinking about too much. Unfortunately I am reminded of my experience every day when I look in the mirror.
I'm only writing this because I think it's important to inform others who are insecure and considering surgery with Mr. Shoaib.
My initial consultation was rushed but went well enough and I left satisfied by our conversation. I brought before and after photos of myself to explain exactly what I wanted (my concerns were based mainly on my side profile as I was happy with my natural nose from the front). He said multiple times he was confident he could definitely achieve the result I wanted and it was a simple procedure.
After the operation and splint removal I waited 5 months to allow majority of the swelling to go down. However the result I had been promised by Mr. Shoaib was not what was achieved. I had the following issues:
1. Before the surgery I was happy with my appearance from the front - my nose was slim and refined. We had agreed to keep my front profile the same but make it ever slightly slimmer. Instead, it is now wider, swollen looking and noticeably less refined than it was before the surgery. I now look worse from the front than I did before.
2. I had the surgery to achieve a straight side profile and reiterated this several times in the initial consultation and just before the surgery. I made it clear I did not want a button or ski jump look. Every time he said he would absolutely be able to achieve this. However, the result is not at all straight - I now have a substantial dip between the bridge and tip of my nose, and the tip is the tallest point of my nose.
2. I had a very subtle deviated septum before the surgery and instead of improving this it was made much worse. This has created asymmetry and I now have to breath through my mouth as I can no longer breath through my nose comfortably.
Having received no communication from Berkeley Square since the operation, I emailed the surgery with images and received a response from a different surgeon agreeing that there was a problem and my nose looked inflamed which would require a steroid injection and a consultation to address the other issues.
I tried to arrange a consultation but found it extremely difficult to get an appointment. At one point his PA suggested I fly to Scotland from London for the appointment as he was only in London for a few days a month. When I eventually managed to see Mr. Shoaib months later the consultation was rushed and he was clearly disinterested. It was obvious he didn’t care in the slightest that the result was nothing like what he had promised or that I was unhappy.
His response was that I get filler injections for the rest of my life to correct his mistakes. He had no suggestion about how to correct the swollen look of my nose (which never subsided) or my deviated septum / breathing issues.
I never heard from him or anyone else at the practice again.
According to the website and the welcome pack the following is included in the surgery cost:
?7 Day , 3 month, 6 month and 12 Month post operative appointments to assess progress and take photographs.
Direct access to your Surgeon.
However, I was never contacted for a follow up or to take the 3 and 6 month post operative photographs. The aftercare fell very short of what was promised.
The website used to boast a 0% revision rate for their rhinoplasty patients. I can’t find this anymore so I wonder whether it has been removed. Either way it should be because I definitely require a revision operation.
