Recovery House Review
Initially when I scheduled by Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) I was going to get a nice hotel and have my sister who has a CNA cert care for me. Let me say, I am so very happy that I decided to stay at the recovery house instead.
December 17 - Arrival Day
My first night that I arrived, I was greeted by Grace a very compassionate caregiver. She welcomed me with a warm hug, asked if I wanted anything to eat (it was after 11pm I arrive so I opted out of receiving a meal/snack), then gave me a tour of the house. My first thoughts were that the house was very quiet, clean, private and had a great open floor plan.
Prior to going to bed I had a chance to meet one of the girls post op and was moved by her results. When I saw her, I finally understood why some on Real Self would say you need to see them in person to get a true idea of size, projection etc.
The house has wifi, cable and a DVD collection for those who want to watch movies privately in their rooms. There are snacks and fruits out in the open for easy grabbing and rooms are insulated enough to watch TV later and not wake others.
December 18 - 1 Day Pre Op
During my pre-op day I met the rest of the girls and a new caregiver Lourdes. I lucked out because not only was my caregiver really sweet and attentive, the girls in the house with me were amazing! I was very afraid that I was going to come to a home with snobbish women who were vain and catty. These women were friendly. We all came from different parts of the world and had different ethnicities (I'm a huge fan of learning about other cultures)!
They told me what to expect every step of the way. We'd talk all through the day, watch television and eat together. Some of the ladies went on a brief mall visit, mainly to be out and about and get fresh air. Lourdes waited on us hand and foot, made/served our meals, bathed and dressed us, washed our clothes, cleaned our incisions, reminded us to take our meds/vitamins, made us laugh, gave us advice and was a true support system. There was no deed that was beneath her to do. Lourdes was also so accommodating that she requested I text her if I needed anything while I was sleeping so that she could get it for me and I would not have to leave my room.
We have three meals a day and as I mentioned earlier, there are numerous snacks available. I would recommend bringing work or a book with you because you will have lots of down time. I honestly just enjoyed the company of my girls and Lourdes. All had different life stories and we talked about our interests in getting our BBLs. One of the ladies who was the oldest of all of us (she was super young looking though with the sweetest personality) sparked conversation and we all started talking about celebrities, shopping, dating, men and relationships. My bond with these beauties felt like a true sisterhood.
I was somewhat at ease before my surgery looking at the results of the others. Tomorrow was going to be a win!
December 19 - Sx Day
I was ready today! Justin our driver was also great support system. He's prior military and a professional worker. He's always on time so please no lateness when he comes to pick you up for your arrivals, and appointments. Grace and Lourdes kept the communication flowing to ensure we knew when we needed to be ready. Justin would give us pep talks in the car and say "your gonna take a quick walk and a nap and be ready to go back to the house". He's a great asset to the team.
When I entered the Sx location I filled out some paperwork. Be prepared to fill out a lot of paper work. It will be redundant but all of the information is extremely important. I then met the Dr. Salama! First off let me say he is a very straight forward person. He will go over preliminary information, tell you the body type that you have as his starting foundation and then ask for your desires. He is a realist, please understand this. If you are morbidly overweight/underweight and are looking for dramatic results he will do what he can within healthy parameters but your safety comes before any thing else. I could tell he was very serious about his craft, which of course made my trust level skyrocket. He took a couple of pictures of me and began the marking. Since I have a fairly athletic build (with the exception of my mid section) I wanted a derrière similar to Serena Williams; one that would have plenty of projection and complement the muscle tone in my thighs. After this I told him I wanted my thighs lypoed so I could have the coveted thigh-gap effect. I also told him that my biggest problem area were my flanks. We were both on the understanding that I would have aggressive lypo.
After speaking with him I spoke with the anesthesiologist whose name I currently can not recall. He went over some preliminary items with me as well. He escorted me to the operation room, I laid on a well heated surface, received oxygen, and the feel good drugs start to kick in! The next thing I remember was waking up in my garment and having to urinate. The nurse was next to me when I woke and said everything went well. Justin picked me up from my car and drove me back the house. I surprisingly felt great and wasn't in unbearable pain. Once I returned home I had a small meal and went to bed.
Get used to sleeping on your stomach and slightly on your sides for quite a while.
December 20 - 22 Was very sore the first two of these days. Lourdes gave me my first shower the second day after my Sx (21 Dec) and I felt great. She was very gentle and I slept like a baby. The evening of the 21 I got the least sleep because I used no pain meds that day (personal preference). I knew I was going to have a lymphatic massage the next morning and wanted to wait till then to take more meds. I didn't have much of an appetite but had to force myself to eat.
For meals there are a variety of options but I stuck with fruit, oatmeal and hot tea in the morning post opp.
My masseuse was Eileen and she has thorough. My body was obviously sensitive to her firm touch but it was much appreciated. I could feel the excess fluid draining out as she touched me. We talked a bit and she was friendly and personable. I was so appreciative of how good of a messuage she gave me. I felt like I had a brand new body when she was done! I was able to stand straighter, was more alert, and overall my comfortability increased which was important since I received a new and tighter garment after my messuage. Dr. Salama came to check up on me again after my messuage, (the first time he checked on me was the next day after my Sx) to make sure I looked well and there were no irregularities. He reiterated the importance of eating well and keeping up with all of my post opp actions and drinking plenty of water. I'm so glad I decided to choose him as my surgeon.
I'll share all my other insights, all pics with my next post. Today I am the mayor of Itch City and the Benadryl is kicking in right about now. I'd rather not continue writing if there is a chance I'll have a ton of grammatical errors. More to come ladies...send any questions you have my way.

Thank you for the thorough review. I'm considering dr. Salama for my round 2. U said he did aggressive lipo which I want, did he charge u extra because u told him u wanted him to be aggressive? Also did he lipo ur upper and/or mid back?
Thank you so much for your review and your details about the recovery house. I'm a little more than 3 weeks away from my procedure and the only thing that was really making me anxious was not knowing what to expect from the recovery house. Thanks for the info!
Very thorough Thank you. I'm looking forward to experiencing the Recovery house myself. Happy Healing.
