After having three kids in my early 20's I decided...

After having three kids in my early 20's I decided it was time to put my body back into place. I've always had very large breasts, and after nursing all three of my kids they had begun to sag and put a lot of pressure on my neck and back. In addition, my stomach was stretched and saggy, and I was having a hard time fitting into clothes. I would have to buy larger sizes to accommodate my waist and breasts, and just generally felt unhappy with the condition my body was in. All the diet and exercise in the world wasn't enough to shrink my stretched out skin and breasts back to their normal place. In fact, the more weight I lost, the more the skin around my waist sagged - it was like the problem grew worse instead of better!

I had some big life changes and finally decided it was time to think about me for a change. I set up a consultation with Dr. Kerr and one other plastic surgeon in Austin. I went to Dr. Kerr first and liked him so much that I cancelled the other consult and scheduled my surgery the day of my consultation.

Dr. Kerr suggested that I had a full tummy tuck and a breast lift and small reduction. I had originally wanted a reduction, but after talking to Dr. Kerr I agreed that I didn't want to go too small with my breasts. I was more concerned with the sagginess than with the large size.

My surgery went really well. I was very sore for about a week, and after that I was sore in like a "super work out" type of way, but it wasn't so bad that I required pain medicine above the normal tylenol. Things were very, very tight in my stomach for a long time, and I basically had no core strength. It took probably 6-8 weeks before I really felt like myself again - but boy does it look great! I went from hating what I saw in the mirror to now being surprised every time I catch a glimpse of myself. I went from a size 12 pant to a size 8, and from a 38DD/DDD to a 38D on breast. I was having to buy XL in tops to accommodate my large breasts, and now I'm buying size medium. AND I'm able to buy shirts that button, which I've never been able to do before. I am having so much fun shopping for new clothes! The pain in my neck and shoulders is relieved, and its so nice to not have to wear a body shaper under my clothes all the time to hide my stretched stomach skin.

I wish I had done this years ago, or that I could time-travel back to myself and let me know what a difference this was going to make. It was worth every penny and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Any pain was well worth it.

Dr. Kerr was really fantastic. I felt very comfortable with him from the beginning. He is clearly knowledgeable but very approachable and relatable at the same time. At my consultation he spent a lot of time explaining everything that would happen in the procedure, drawing pictures, asking if I had questions, and then answering my questions fully. Perhaps most telling, the day of my surgery the nurses at the hospital - who are employed by the hospital and not by Dr. Kerr - had nothing but great things to say about Dr. Kerr. They said that several plastic surgeons in the area use the hospital facility for their procedures, but that they think Dr. Kerr is the best of the bunch, that he does way more procedures than the others, and one of them even said that she had undergone a breast reductions a few years prior and wish she'd known Dr. Kerr at the time. For me, the opinion of these nurses held a lot of sway. The anesthesiologist also had great things to say about Dr. Kerr. I think it comes down to the fact that Dr. Kerr is not just great at what he does - he's a genuinely nice guy. My procedure went very well, and I LOVE my results. Dr. Kerr said from the outset that I was going to get a great result, and he was not exaggerating. I did have a slight issue with my Tummy Tuck incision opening up in a few small places. I was concerned but Dr. Kerr said that is the most common complication of surgery, and he had warned me that it might happen before the procedure. I had a few follow ups for that, and everything closed up and now my scar looks pretty good, I think. I never had to wait more than even 5 minutes for an appointment. For my consult I showed up on the wrong day accidentally and the staff and Dr. Kerr were great and fit me right in. Everyone has always been very courteous on the phone and in person. I would recommend Dr. Kerr to my friends, and I definitely think that if you are considering a procedure you should at least give him a visit for the free consultation.
