Bosley for Blacks?

I had the Hair Transplant Surgery at the Bosley in Buckhead, Atlanta on February 17, 2018. My doctor was Dr. Richard Lorenz and my counselor was Matt Longshore. The staff (front office and staff who performed the procedures) were nice and wanted to ensure my comfort throughout.
I am a Black woman, 47 years old, with no chemicals in my fine 4c hair. I got the surgery because I've been suffering from alopecia for at least 7 years, but was able to disguise it with long hair and specific hair styles.
It's only been 4 months past the surgery and PRP combo treatment, but I don't know if the pain, financial expense, and subsequent hair breakage (as my hair knotted up while I couldn't comb/brush it for weeks) have been worth it. My scalp was sore/tender for at least 2.5 months in both the donor and replacement areas. My 2-star rating may change if I see more promise in the upcoming months.

The best, clear photo of my scalp

This picture is taken about 4.5 months post op. There is some hair cover (fuzz) in the once balding area, but I thought the fuzz would cover more area. I'm not sure how thick it promises to be... I'll have another clear close up in another month.

Holding out for good results...

This is an updated shot of the same scalp area, taken just over 5 months post-op. It isn't much different from last month's picture, but I'm holding out hope as doctors assure it may just begin to grow at about 5 months. I am hopeful, but I don't want to be so hopeful as to disregard actual results.

Hello,
I'm a hair transplant surgeon in Atlanta. I was looking at your review, and I wanted to ask you if you had a biopsy to make sure you don't have scarring alopecia. I see it in African American women your age nearly every day. With scarring alopecia, hair transplant surgery doesn't work and is not medically indicated. So if you have not had a biopsy, you might look into that as that would fairly dramatically change your expectations. I would really not expect much growth at all if you have a component of scarring alopecia. I perform a biopsy on nearly all my African American patients, as it can be very difficult, if not impossible, to diagnose without a biopsy. This way I prevent any unhappy patients who have no hair growth only to find out after the fact that they had a type of hair loss that was not amenable to hair transplant in the first place.

I really hope you get good results. Five months is usually when it just starts coming in. Mine started like very fine "baby hair" around 3 to 4 months and at five months I was starting to see pretty good growth. I am a white male and black hair is different. Apparently it can curl under the skin which makes FUE much more difficult to perform. I'm not sure if you had FUE (little punches) or FUT (strip) method?
I hate to say this but Bosley is not a top quality hair restoration clinic. They are a chain and market well and get their name out there but their work is unpredictable. If you would ever do another procedure go onto the hair forums first....HairRestoration network is a good one.....and do your research. There are doctors who regularly work with black patients and get good results. I really hope you get good results from this surgery you just had!!!!
Best Wishes
