I posted here 3 years ago as I sought out consultations, but decided to wait until I was truly ready. I'm 35 years old, 5'5, 152 pounds, and have had two kids. I gain weight in my upper body and have never had a butt. After kids changed my body composition, I looked disproportionately large on my upper half. I breast fed both kids for almost two years each and had terrible stretch marks, a sagging belly and belly button, and my ab muscles were permanently separated. Because of the muscle separation, every time I became bloated, I looked pregnant (seriously-people have mistaken me for pregnant more than once). I work out two days a week and eat healthy. Attached are my before photos.

Day 1: Hurts like hell. Even with the Exparel. I can handle the breasts and lipo areas, but the abdominal muscle plication is no joke. Take the maximum amount of painkillers you can take safely/by docs orders. Using a walker, recliner, and toilet attachment that makes the seat super high-saving my life right now . Body feels weird. Shortness of breath from tight binder and sometimes tingling arms. All together, more intense/freaky than I thought it would be seeing as I usually have a high tolerance for pain (natural birther) and don't scare easily. Taking morphine, soma, and hydrocodone intermittently. Eating: tiny meals, lots and lots of water. No appetite first day, so just bites fruit to get meds down, but by lunch on second day, wanted a real meal. Loosening binder helps with breathing and tingling. First post-op appointment was day 2. I got to see results for first time and found out that they cut 2 pounds of skin off and removed almost 4 pounds of fat!

Still far more incapacitated than I thought I'd be. After watching all of these "Mommy Makeover" Youtube Vlogs, I thought I'd be kicking ass, but I think those girls are either really high on drugs or stretching the truth, because I am barely getting around with my walker. The results are beautiful but I'm more swollen than day 2, so keep in mind when viewing pics-that's just retention. I can tell that my entire body looks different because of my smaller back and mid section. Breasts still healing after lift, but I can feel my nipples 100%. And for you moms who are familiar with this issue-I feel like my tightened abdomen gives me MORE bladder control than before surgery (unexpected bonus). WARNING: I did not take stool softeners which was a HUGE mistake. I'm not going to go into details here, but take a stool softener every night starting the night before surgery OR YOU WILL HAVE THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF YOUR LIFE. (Imagine giving birth after having your ab muscles sown together. Enough said?) I didn't think I'd need them and I was dumb. Don't be dumb. Am I as recovered as I anticipated? Hell no. And I'm surprised cause I'm a tough girl. Was it worth it? Hell yes. The results have already exceeded my expectations and I'm still in "Swell Hell". Just make sure you have a person or a team with you 24/7 for at least the first week. I'm telling you ladies-I'm usually a bulldozer-I never needed "recovery" like this. Hopefully you won't be like me, but plan for the worst-it'll still be worth it (at least it is for me), but I've never been this helpless. The pain meds help a lot but they ruin your critical thinking ability. Just be sure your people got your back.

Also: Dr. Colgrove gave me a call again last night to see how I was. Very kind, very attentive. I feel like I'm still in his care even though I've been home for 5 days, and that's a good feeling to have in a state like this.

Oh girl, I didn't even stand straight until day 10. I didn't think I would need as much help as I did either, but after reading reviews, I knew I had to be very prepared. I currently have a very strong willed and let's just say, spunky, 2 year old. She's like a bull in a China shop so I knew I would need care for her aside from my husband. I hate being helpless too. I'm also a very physical person and also always thought of myself as very tough. Its very humbling to be knocked down a few pegs like this. I was 3 weeks post op as of Thursday last week. Just eat good and healthy foods, avoid alcohol (you will look preggo again, trust me), avoid salt, and drink that water! It gets better every day!

It's reassuring to hear it's not just me...after day 5 came and went with no "big change" in my ability to get around, I started feeling nervous. I'm doing all the things you said-no salt, alcohol, tons of water and healthy (lite) eating. I can't wait for 3 weeks post op....

Hang in there! It gets better. Every day I made myself walk a little more. If I got up to go to the bathroom, I would then make a lap around the house. I needed help walking at first, but day 5 I did it by myself, at least without clinging to my husband. He was still right there just in case. I rented a reclining lift chair, which made it a lot less stressful on my husband and I. I know I'm only a couple weeks ahead of you, but feel free to ask me any questions you have. I'd be happy to help if i can :) happy continued healing and chin up! You'll start feeling more like yourself everyday!

I just found your story and you already look AMAZING to say the least. They say pain is beauty and I guess their right.
