I never thought I’d ever have any work done, but o...
I never thought I’d ever have any work done, but over the last 18 months noticed I’d lost a lot of volume in my face. I’d be game for a face lift, but with a bald head, have no place to hide scars and didn’t have bounce back time right now.
Luckily, my wife is a veteran cosmetic surgery consultant, and sends me to meet Dr. Gabriele Miotto, who specializes in facial rejuvenation and filler. A Brazilian trained in the two most surgically enhanced countries on earth, she teaches at Emory Medical school and exudes calm, confidence and serenity.
“Dr. Gabby” takes photos and studies my face for a long time, then comes up with a plan: with no body fat available to use, she’d inject several different fillers designed for various areas of the face to gently lift the furrows, even out the valleys and get the “cheeks” back. A little botox at the corner of the eyes to add a little lift and balance things out. Nothing drastic.
If by chance it doesn’t look right, or I don’t like something, she can inject fluid to instantly dissolve the filler, erase the blackboard. She suggests doing it over two sessions. See how it looks, followed by a touch-up.
I sleep on it, call back, ask more questions I know she’s answered endless times before. But she’s so patient and reassuring, she wins my trust. I head in for session one. She explains tiny needles might feel like little pricks, but numbing cream and ice packs should minimize the pain. Breathe deep, relax. She’s so gentle, I barely feel the needle, even as she injects the filler. I note her incredibly steady hands. She doesn’t rush, stands back to study, injects a little more to balance out the other side.
I take a look, can actually see a difference—no more hollow cheeks…a familiar face looks like it’s coming back. She says don’t judge it for a few days, apply ice, keep down swelling and come back.
Frankly, I’m amazed. Later that night, no pain and NO bruising … Her office staff is kind and thoughtful, and follows up to check on me. I’m fine.
Three weeks later…I head back. Touch up time. She takes more photos, studies my face again. Tells me where she thinks I could use more filler for the furrows, take out a few more wrinkles… Wants to make sure it looks symmetrical and natural. Again, I’m lucky--no pain, no bruising, a non-surgical alternative that seems to be working.
Now, six weeks out, once deep furrows cast no shadows. I see a face that looks more like me. “It looks terrific,” says my wife.
She doesn’t have to say, “I told you so.”
Why didn’t I try it sooner? Who knows, but I’m grateful I waited for an artiste I’m calling my Dr. Michaelangelo, aka, Gabriele Miotto, MD.
