Consultation - Wasn't What I Expected. Atlanta, GA
ORIGINAL POST
I have been interested in having a breast...
$6,900
I have been interested in having a breast augmentation done for several years now. Since I'm in a good financial state, I figured that the time is now.
I initially heard of Dr. Colgrove via this website and a young lady on YouTube who recently visited Dr. Colgrove this year for the same procedure. She vlogged about her positive experience with him and his staff, and that led me to schedule a consultation.
I was very excited leading up to my consultation at the end of August, but that feeling soon began to fade after I stepped foot into their facility. I was hoping to be greeted kindly, but did not get that at all. I came in contact with 4 different people throughout the time that I was there, and only one of them was helpful - and, sadly, it wasn't he doctor.
From the time I arrived, I was in the back having my vitals checked within 15 minutes. The nurse checking my vitals, I forget her name, but she was very sweet and kind. After checking my vitals, she sat me in a room, told me to undress from the waist up and put on a robe. Next, she took me to another room and took photos of my chest and we went back into the other room where she turned on a video and gave me binders of the doctor's work to look at. She returned and we began to discuss the video. Dr. Colgrove arrived minutes later, introduced himself and began to take some measurements of my chest. The dialogue between us was not the best. It wasn't much of a dialogue, actually... I would ask a question, he would answer, and there would be silence, repeat. It wasn't much of a conversation, and he didn't try to help me feel comfortable at all. Actually, the look on his face was of sheer boredom, as if he was ready for the consultation to be over already. He stayed in the room with the nurse and I for maybe 15-20 minutes and left. The nurse continued to help me try on the sizers and the bra, made several great suggestions and allowed me to see how I would look with the implants on the computer.
I would have appreciated it more of the consultation experience was with the actual doctor, so that I could try to become comfortable with him, so that he could get to know me, what it is that I'm looking for and help make suggestions. I did not receive much of that at all. If the nurse could do the procedure, I would be much more comfortable having her perform it than the actual doctor.
I wish I could say that I received the positive experience that most of you did, but I did not. I will continue my search for a P.S. to perform my breast augmentation procedure.

I have seen this same response on several posts. I was going to go see him, but decided it might be pointless. My Gyno referred me to John Philip Connors III, MD, and his reviews have been positive, but I have not been to see him yet. Good luck finding the 'one'.

I had seen several posts saying the same as well, but decided to go on anyway. Judging by his before and after pictures, he does great work! He just wasn't what I was looking for in a doctor. I hope that your visit to Dr. Connors III goes well!
I did find a great doctor for my surgery after another consultation. Complete opposite of what I described above. My surgery is at the end of November :-) Good luck to you!

I understand how you feel. I went for a consult months ago and originally because of the same experience I was planning on going with another surgeon. I did get my surgery with Dr. Colgrove last month because even though he really is not very friendly and most of his staff isn't either, the work he does is good. The day of my surgery was great, no pain at all, no bruising and I was completely dressed by the nurses before they woke me. During recovery I had little discomfort and I'm healing very well. He's good at what he does and has been doing it for 28 years. I think that's were that boredom comes from because I feel the same way every time I see him. Good luck to you. It's a big decision and you have to feel good about who you decide on.

It's funny that you mention that, because I did think about that, too. His great work shows through his years of experience. It could be that he may be a little bored, you have a point there. I'm glad you had a positive surgical experience with him! It seems that several people have. I just knew what I was looking for in a doctor, and I do believe that I've found that :-) Congrats to you! Hope you're recovering well!

I felt the same way about Colgrove. Try Dr. Campbell in Gainesville GA. I know you will be pleased with the consultation and I LOVE my boobs (done by him).

Thanks for the suggestion! I found another doctor here in the Atlanta area that I'm excited to work with. My surgery is in November! I'm glad that your surgery went well, and that you're pleased with the results!
