WORTH IT
This is going to be a long one, but worth the read. Let me start by saying WOW. I’m only halfway through this journey but I seriously wish I did this sooner for my well-being and confidence.
I had tuberous breasts for years. I was unbelievably insecure about the shape of my boobs and puffy nipples that I would constantly hide them in overly padded bras. The only time I was happy with my boobs was when they were either cold or stimulated - which would change the shape of my boobs completely, they were firmer and tighter and my nipples reduced in size dramatically. Whenever I went braless in shirts I had a constant worry in my head about the way my breasts looked naturally.
I never let my partners see my “warm boobs.” I would always cover myself during intimate moments and would purposely open the windows/turn the fan on to make the room colder which would make my boobs perk up. I could never just enjoy myself and allow myself to be confident and sexy in my own body.
Growing up I realized my boobs were different. I was unbelievably jealous of the girls with the perfect round breasts. I wanted a breast augmentation in my early 20’s but as I did more and more research I turned against the illnesses and complications that came with implants.
One night I finally confessed to my friends how much I hated my breasts. I was shocked when they all responded with confusion. We compared our breasts of all shapes and sizes and I realized that those “perfect round breasts with small nipples” that I so badly wanted, were actually way more rare than normal. We all had something we didn’t particularly like, but what I realized that night was ALL of our breasts were perfectly NORMAL.
However, despite feeling humbled, I was still envious of small nipples and round boobs and felt like I could never feel 100% happy with my snoopy boobs.
I researched everything from implants to fat transfers when I finally came across “areola reduction surgery.” I searched for the top doctor in my area and instantly booked a consultation. The wait couldn’t come fast enough.
When I met with Dr. Seal he was incredibly personable and professional. I addressed my major concerns with the shape of my breasts and the size of my areolas and he assured me a reduction would be exactly what I needed.
On the day of the surgery, I was greeted by a great team of professional surgeons and nurses. I was honestly so excited that I had no anxiety at all on the day of surgery. I was put under general anesthesia for the procedure and it took about 1.5 hours.
I went home the following hour after surgery and took 2 weeks off work to recover.
So far I’m only on day 13 post-surgery, but wow. I’ve noticed major changes already:
? My breast shape has changed completely. They’re much firmer and rounder - and STAY round.
? My breasts are bigger because my “snoopy” nipples aren’t distributing the fat in my nipples anymore.
? My nipples are much smaller and give the illusion of sitting higher, which gives me a lot more “bottom boob” than I’ve EVER had.
My girlfriends told me it looks like I had mini implants which is exactly what I wanted but with my natural breasts!! I seriously can’t express enough how excited I am to see them healed.
The pain and recovery have been relatively easy. The first day post op wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. It was more of a stinging pain than an aching pain. For the first few days I just laid on my couch with 2 ice packs on my breasts at all times. It helped SO much. I'm now almost at 2 weeks recovered and my boobs just FEEL way bigger, firmer, and still a little sore. I’ll continue to update here for anyone interested!

Hi
I have exactly the same condition and life experience around the shame of showing my breasts.
I want to do the same procedure.
Did your doctor used permanent or temporary sutures?
Also I would like to know if with this procedure the nipples won’t react anymore lol o touch or temperature.
I’m wondering if they will still expand and contract after healed.

Hi! I believe they are temporary as he said some of the stitches should dissolve on their own. I also have 2 “permanent” sutures under my Areola that can be removed after a year if I find they bother me.
They 100% still react to touch, sensitivity, temperature etc. They still expand and contract like normal - the areola is just a lot smaller now. I will post photos of them expanded and contracted so you can see the difference.
Hope this helps :)

20 days post
Some odd pain
samanthawwwSeptember 16, 2022
Hi guys!
I’m almost 3 weeks post op and I’m feeling alright. I’m having troubles with my left nipple, it started throbbing pain throughout the week. I also noticed that some of the sutures opened and bled into the bandages. I read that it was normal for one to heal faster than the other, so I’m assuming that’s what’s happening.
I’m going for another follow up in a few days, so I’ll get some better photos and give an update with what Dr Seal has to say.

Has it gotten better?

Hi!
Yes and no. My right Areola is healing beautifully, It doesn’t even feel like I’ve had surgery on it. I’ve had no issues with this breast.
My left Areola is a bit of a different story. It’s healing slower and I still have odd pains here and there.
The doctor assured me it’s normal for one to heal faster than the other, and after 3 months I should be fully healed.

Genuinely curious cause I am really interested in getting the procedure as I have unfortunately to Tubular breast but did you lose any sensation it’s one of my fears
October 12, 2022
As far as I’m concerned, no. I can’t give you a “for sure” answer though because they are still healing and some of the sutures are still open. Therefor I haven’t been able to really see if I’ve lost sensation or if they’re the same as they were before surgery, but I can definitely tell you that I still feel sensation!

Was this classed under a ‘donut mastopexy’?
January 13, 2023
No, I wouldn't say it's classed as a donut mastopexy because it wasn't a breast lift. I know they used the donut method for reducing the areola though. So similar technique but not quite.

How are you doing?
It would be very helpful to know your progress!

Hi! I'll post an update soon with photos. I'm doing great. The scars are quite defined but I've been told up to a year until they settle and heal completely.

3 weeks post op

These are photos I took at 3 weeks post op and I was so happy with them. They look amazing and I’m super happy with the shape and size. The sutures are healing nicely.
The pain in my left breast is still there but not as often. I have strange discolouration under my boob and I’m not sure if it’s bruising or part of the healing so I’ll keep that updated too.

They look great! Have you found that your nipples 2 weeks post op were the size they are now or did they widen a bit after healing?
October 25, 2022
Thank you!
No not at all. They have healed exactly in the same position and width from my surgery.
I don’t have large breasts though so I know that has a lot to do with stretching. The more weight the breasts have the harder it is on the sutures and scar tissue. (I asked the surgeon about this because I was worried about stretching!)

Very noticeable and very defined at this point in my healing journey. I've been told it will take up to a year to fully heal.

Looking great, I've done it after wanting it for 18y and after 3 months everything went back how it was. I'm so sad. What i have left is feeling Satures, pain and one shy flat nipple... There's just not enough about post op online.. i didn't even realize i will feel sutures... I went to high end surgeon but i guess this was not profitable enough for him to fully explain what happens after.. he did say something may come back but just after 3months so much .. not really worth it. I also had horrible experience whilst on table as my hand was touching metal, and got electro-shocked a few times on my left breast ... There must be a space to talk more about post op...this is not "just simple "procedure for me in the end...

Do you have permanent stiches?
January 5, 2023
I’m so happy for you! I also have tuberous breasts & thought I would need a FT but your shape has changed so much from just the areola reduction!
January 13, 2023
Thank you! I completely agree, the shape changed drastically which was one of my main concerns (snoopy boobs). I was also looking into a FT before I decided to go with an areola reduction and I'm really happy I did. FT is so much more invasive and I've read some horror stories about fat dying etc. I recommend you find a great doctor in your area and start with a consultation for areola reduction. He or she will be able to assess your breasts and give you a much better idea if the surgery will work for your concerns.
January 14, 2023
Please make an update of how’s it going. How are you healing? It would be very helpful!!
July 4, 2023
Hi! I totally forgot all about my updates. I'll be posting them this week since I'm coming up to 1 year post op!
My partner also loved my boobs before the surgery, but honestly my puffy areolas bothered me so much. I was always concerned about the way they looked. This surgery has completely changed the way I feel and look, now I WANT to walk around topless and show them off. I 100% recommend this surgery to you if you feel the same way about yours.
