I am 10 weeks post perlane injection (.5 ml) to each cheek. My BC dermatologist injected soooooo deeply as Perlane was new to him. I was left with nerve irritation which has gotten a bit better, eye pain, and pain in my cheekbone which he said are bruises caused by the injection. If I wasn't fighting stage 4 cancer I might have the energy to put up with this. However, his negligence (no other word for it) has left me depressed, and stripped me of all self confidence. I got the filler to increase my confidence, not destroy it. I can only hope this "lesion" resolves sooner than later as I have been searching for answers/help and have found none. Every day I feel as if I was punched in the face.

So sorry to hear about the pain you are experiencing especially when you fighting stage 4 cancer. I too am experiencing nerve pain which effects my cheek and eye. It has been 3 months since I had Juverderm Voluma with a cannula and I am in pain everyday. For the first few weeks I had inflammation and discomfort that turned to pain. Like you, I have that punched in the face feeling and I get sporadic stabbing/burning pains. The fact it effects my eye when I look down drives me mad. I have seen a Neuro who massaged the area 2 weeks ago and he has left me in tremendous pain since. He told me it could take up to 1 year for this to heal. Although he told me there is a small chance it could be permanent which I can't bear to think about. My doctor was definitely negligent also, she couldn't get the product in and she got frustrated and then suddenly pushed through the resistance and I felt a sudden sharp pain. Instantly I knew she messed up but she said the pain was normal. Of course she takes no responsibility and even told me I had somatization disorder! I am so sad and depressed. I feel so guilty and regretful. If only we could turn back time. I really hope you are on the path to recovery?

Cheek Filler Gone Wrong!
Summer girl 13November 24, 2015
I had .5 cc of Perlane in each cheek. The board certified dermatologist injector caused me to get trigeminal neuralgia. I am still suffering almost 6 months later. He denies causing the problem. Now I can't have more fillers, or laser, and since I am on chemotherapy and my skin is sensitive, I can't have peels. I am stuck. Other doctors won't admit the injector made a mistake, either. I did this to feel BETTER about myself. Now I feel much worse.

Hi Summergirl13, the diagnosis I got from the Neurologist a few weeks ago is Post-traumatic 2nd division trigeminal neuropathy. It sounds like this is what you have with the constant punched in the face feeling. Trigeminal Neuralgia is painful episodes and then pain free periods. With Post-traumatic trigeminal neuropathy its continuous pain with dull sharp exacerbating pain. The neuro specialist is 100% confident that I will recover, a bold statement to make so he better be right! He told me to continue gabapentin 300mgx3 a day. It's not helping, been in terrible pain for nearly 3 weeks now and I have been on Gabapentin for 9 weeks. In those 9 weeks I had 1 week of mild pain, not a great result. He allow told me not to take painkillers at this slows down the healing process, easy for him to say, he isn't crying into his pillow trying to get to sleep at night with this pain! I couldn't work with Sudafed with ibuprofen, the only thing that works for me. You will get better, you just have to be patient, which I know is extremely difficult. There is a case study of 63 patients with this condition. Something like 25 people recovered within 6 months and 32 within one year so I like our odds! Thinking of you and sending well wishes X

Hi Chanel11, thanks for the update and information. I have a neurologist appt. in 2 weeks and am anxious to go. I had canceled one in Sept. and am sorry I did, but I was feeling better then. I actually still have a swollen area in my cheek, not obvious from the outside but I can feel it when I touch my face. And it's sore. I am beyond distraught and don't want to even leave the house. Plus my face looks awful. Plus dealing with this cancer crap. Have you thought any more about filing a lawsuit? I am really considering it even though it's such a long shot in the U.S. I hope the gabapentin works a little better for you in the near future! Thanks for the well wishes and thinking of you, too!

No relief from nerve pain after cheek filler
Summer girl 13December 19, 2015
Went back to the injecting doc this week and he said he same as he did before - "don't touch it". No advice on how to decrease swelling, relieve pain. Docs who can't handle the problems that arise from injecting shouldn't be doing them. I really am hoping this damage is no permanent as I can not live like this. Wish I would have just gotten wrinkled gracefully and accepted that as Lord knows I earned those wrinkles. :(
