Deciding to have a baby at the age of 46 and becoming a mom at age 47 left my middle humongous, soft and droopy at age 49. I would sit and my belly would rest on my lap more so than when I was actually pregnant. I had to purchase clothing that probably hung better on a window than on me.
One day I just had enough and sought the opinion of Dr. Jan. He listened, he felt and explained the muscle separation I was experiencing, and stated that he has seen this many times before and proceeded to show me pictures of before and after pictures. He suggested not only the abdominoplasty but also liposuction of my flanks.
When I awoke in the recovery room, I learned that all the surgeries went well and that I would remain in the hospital over night. With help from the nursing staff, I was on my feet and shuffling to the bathroom. I think the movement shortly after surgery helped me recover quicker. On day 20 I was back to work but moving slower than my usual and still not permitted to lift anything over 10 pounds which meant I couldn't lift my son. Not picking him up for many weeks was probably the most painful part of the surgery.
Today, week seven post surgery, I'm back in my size pre-pregancy (size 16) and I'm thrilled. Important to note here is that it was never my intention to have the elective surgery for weight loss or to become the next top model, I simply needed to find my pep back in my step and my husband comments everyday just how great I look.
I feel and look great and it shows in so many more ways then just how the clothes fit.
I was already scheduled for a much needed hysterectomy and asked how having the two surgeries would effect my recovery time as I needed to be back to work in 20 days. Both surgeries were done (first the hysterectomy and then the abdomeno plasti with liposuction of my flanks).
