Subtle & Scarless

I delayed getting this procedure for two years while searching high and low for vlogs and posts that detailed the true healing process. So many videos online document the experience during and immediately after the procedure, but few show the healing process or close ups of the scars, which along with an overly aggressive reduction, were my greatest fear. I'm currently 15 days post op and am shocked at how clean the healing process has been and how undetectable the scars are.

My goal was to decrease nostril flare, especially when I laugh or smile; symmetrical nostrils when looking up my nose were not a goal or concern. Doctors will advise that you can't typically achieve that while also aiming to create symmetry when looking at the face/nose head on as nostril openings are often different shapes to begin with. All to say, I am aware that from underneath my nostrils are not symmetrical and I'm ok with that. They never were. And I couldn't resolve my main concern and fix that, too. Choose your battles! Anyway, I'm still healing and have minor swelling but so far am very pleased with the results.

Dr. Janjua knows what he's doing. This is his specialty and he's very skilled, confident, gentle and reassuring. As I said before, I researched for two years and he consistently populates as the expert in this small but impactful procedure. Prior to surgery we had two in-person consults and a FaceTime. There were some pre-op routines to prep the skin and body for the day of surgery which was performed under local anesthesia (I also got an upper blepharoplasty). I was awake the entire time, which sounds daunting and isn't for everyone, but the most pain I felt was the initial injections (you will get quite a few inside your upper lip like you would at the dentist). The lorazepam helps keep things chill though.

The whole surgery took about an hour. I was very diligent about keeping the area clean and following the post-op instructions. I opted for actual thread sutures rather than all dissolvable since I was able to travel back to the office to have them removed, but even if you go that route you will still need some dissolvable stitches. I mention this for anyone whose body tends to reject them. Mine does, so I wanted to minimize the number used. That said, I currently have one stitch attempting to make it's way through the skin around the base of my right nostril. It's only detectable to me and I suspected that would happen given past experience, but something to be aware of. It's normal and generally resolves on its own or can be removed by the doctor.

My only critique of the experience so far was not hearing from the office after surgery. I'm chalking it up to the time of year, but I was surprised not to get a follow up call a day or two after the procedure to see how things were going. To be fair, I did call the office on Day 2 to ask a few questions about the healing process (for my eyes) so perhaps that was logged as follow up contact. The nurses and office staff are absolutely lovely and pleasant, so this really is a nit-picky note and nothing that should deter anyone from seeking Dr. Janjua's services. Just relaying my experience which was otherwise fantastic.
