After Years of Research, I Finally Found the Right Surgeon for My Brow Lift

WORTH IT$5,900
At 41, I felt older than my years. I have a connective tissue disorder that contributes to early skin laxity, and for years my heavy, drooping brows gave me a tired appearance and frequent tension headaches. People would ask if I was tired when I felt perfectly fine, and I noticed that my facial expression wasn’t communicating what I actually felt. I had been considering a brow lift for 3–5 years before finally moving forward.

I initially consulted with several surgeons closer to my home in Central Virginia. Most recommended starting with a four-eyelid blepharoplasty instead of addressing the brow itself. I ultimately underwent upper and lower blepharoplasty with another surgeon. While it improved my eyes for a time, it eventually made it more apparent that the real issue was my brow position.

I found Dr. Frank Richards through RealSelf and felt comfortable scheduling a consultation because of how responsive and helpful his staff was from the very beginning. Unlike many practices, they were willing to discuss realistic ballpark pricing over the phone, which helped me determine whether the procedure was within my budget. The consultation fee was reasonable, and they were able to get me in within about a month.

From my first interaction, I felt a genuine sense of professionalism and kindness from everyone in the office. The front office staff were welcoming and informative without ever feeling pushy or sales-oriented. The lead patient coordinator answered all of my questions thoroughly and helped me feel supported and informed throughout the process. Compared to other consultations I had attended, the experience felt refreshingly centered on service rather than sales.

During my consultation, I explained my connective tissue disorder and concerns about long-term durability. Dr. Richards took the time to explain why a coronal brow lift would be the most effective and lasting option for my anatomy and goals. He discussed his surgical approach in detail, including how he accounts for tissue characteristics and designs the incision to allow hair to grow naturally through the scar. I left feeling educated, respected, and completely free of pressure. My impression was that he genuinely wanted me to make the decision that was right for me, whether that meant surgery or not.

The week before surgery was honestly the hardest part. Temporarily stopping supplements, herbal teas, and some of my usual wellness routines was more inconvenient than the recovery itself. As a recovered addict, I chose to manage discomfort with Tylenol alone and never felt the need for stronger pain medication. I experienced very little pain, slept well, and recovered more easily than I expected.

In fact, I returned to my desk job the day after surgery wearing a hat. Due to a farming emergency, I was even shoveling snow two days later. While I certainly wouldn’t recommend that level of activity to anyone else, it speaks to how functional I felt. The most challenging aspect of recovery was not being able to wash my hair for several days. Because the surgery took place during winter and I frequently wear hats and scarves anyway, no one at work even realized I had undergone surgery.

I have thick hair, and I simply wore it parted down the middle while everything healed. By a few weeks post-op, the incisions were already difficult to notice. I also had a PRP facial around six weeks after surgery, which I believe supported my healing process. Four months later, even my partner could not identify where the scars were.

Now, at 42, I genuinely feel that I look better than I ever have. The result is natural enough that people cannot quite identify what has changed, but I frequently hear that I look refreshed, rested, or especially pretty. Most importantly, I still look like myself. I do not look operated on. I simply look like a healthier, more vibrant version of me.

What surprised me most is that the surgery changed more than my appearance. It changed the way I carry myself. I no longer feel like my face is working against me. I feel more confident, more aligned with how I actually feel inside, and more comfortable being seen. Choosing Dr. Richards was one of the best decisions I could have made, and I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone seeking a natural result, exceptional surgical skill, and a practice that treats patients with genuine care and respect.
