I've just had my arm reduction done. I'm laying in bed with my arms propped up on pillows as we speak! Feeling pretty damn comfy too :)

I have been struggling with my weight from 15 years of age. Sadly from crappy diet growing up and I didn't know any better with what was good and what wasn't, etc.

Since 15 years of age, I have ever exposed my arms. Not even to my friends and family. Besides my mum sister and after a long time of confidence building up, my partner.
I Always cover up each summer, even on 42 degree days, feeling like an absolute idiot, making me so depressed, on top of that being so bloody hot, feeling extremely uncomfortable and trying to never leave the house, yet that is impossible when you work a full time job and have adult things to do!
I have sadly contemplated this surgery since 2003, with still having emails I sent out for quotes to surgerys around Adelaide & Sydney.
Finally I'm 29 and summer just been I just knew enough was ENOUGH! Could not mentally deal anymore, sick of bloody wearing clothes to cover up, sick of being so uncomfortably hot, sick of needing to be boiling hot in my own home when people come into my room or I leave my room, needing to chuck something on to just go to the toilet so no one see's my arms!!! Sick of shopping for clothes skipping 90% of them cos they have to have long sleeves!!!!! And still then, trying on long sleeve tops, shirts and even jumpers and them fitting my body perfectly, but way too tight on my arms, looking like a fat bloody turnip. It dampened my mood instantly 100% of the time.
The rest of my body isn't that bad, yeah I have a little extra on me, but I'm comfortable other then my abnormal arms.
I wear a size 12 bra/top - if it goes over my arms so normally a 14/16 to fit my arms.. And I wear a size 14 pant.
So I'm comfy with the rest of me.

I'll wrap this up, but anyone in my situation and contemplating whether to get this surgery done will know 110% exactly what I am saying and know what I've been through.

This surgery cost me $5,300, but you know what, I'd rather pay that to make me happy, make me look great, but overall my mental wellbeing. Every single cent will be worth it after my recovery, even if I do have scars, they are my scars, no one else's, no one else's business but mine.
At least I will soon be able to wear what ever the hell I want and not need to worry about long sleeves nor if my arms are gonna fit or not.
And OMG, summer, bring it on - when normally I ABSOLUTELY DREAD the thought of it coming on, even dreading warm days in Autumn!
I have the cooler Autumn and Winter to heal now and I'll be ready for summer for the first time in my entire life.
Bring it on.
Do it, do what is gonna make you happy, you have to! Finance isn't easy, but make it happen, I was in so much debt myself but I built myself out of it cos I was so determined to do this and now look what I have done.

I was so overwhelmed/happy this arvo I cried happy tears ??

All the best to anyone in my situation, I know exactly how you are feeling and what you have been through.
Go for gold :)

I'm in your shoes. I just turned 30. I was obese growing up so I had excess skin everywhere. I recently got a lift, breast augmentation, and brachioplasty on my arms, exactly a week ago. My arms used to literarily ruin my day too, just seeing them wobble and feeling deformed. I'm happy for you and for myself and our new journey. I can seriously not remember, after just 7 days, what my arms looked prior to now lol. It feels like they've always meant to be this thin.

How the hell are you coping with all of that done at the same time?
I have struggled doing anything for myself! Can't go to the toilet on my own or anything.. Did you have that all done in 1 shot? Congratulations though, you would be feeling like a complete different person! I know how I am feeling with small arms now, imagine how you feel. Wow :)
I plan to have a tummy tuck and breast something, if not implants I want them fixed up too...
How is all your healing going?

Awesome thank you, I just had a look at your page I'll follow you too, didn't see before pictures of your arm but the follow ups are looking great, healing very well, we are lucky we still have young healthy skin :)

Hi there congrats on your arm reduction, glad ynu are feeling so good.
I had an arm am thigh lift 4 weeks ago. I had wobbly bat wings and baggy skin on thighs Like you i rtruggled with my weight until the last few years when after doing weight watchers , aquafit and lots of walking, i lost over 7 stone, this left me with lots of loose skin. I had a 360 tt last sept and this last op finishes the journey to the new me, at 66 years young it was about time.
As i said i ham my arm & thigh lift 4 weeks ago am am feeling pretty good. Mobility on my arms is good but do be careful how much you move them and dont attempt to carry anything to heavy too soon or you will strain the scars. I had a small split in one armpit, this can happen but it has healed now. This is a common thing that can happen but shouldnt cause to much trouble.
Within the next week i will start gentle massage on the scars using aqueous cream, this help reduce the appearance of the scars. I dont know if you have been advised to do this but it really helps my tt scar, i am still doing it now.
One other thing i wanted to mention is that i will be using sun screen on my arms as i have been told that if you dont the scars will look and stay dark,
I live the uk which doesnt have as much strong sun as you do. Check with your ps when you can do this, you have to wait for the scar tissue to settle down.
I dnt know if this is helpful to you.
Goodbye for now and i look forward to hearing how you are getting on. God bless and hjppy healing to you.

Thank you for the comment.
Any feedback is good to hear :)
Glad you're doing well!
Yes we sure do have the worlds most nasty sun here, I will be extra careful, but thankfully Autumn isn't far from being over then it's winter, so I've chosen the perfect time to heal before our next summer!!!
I am off to Bali in 6 weeks though! My PS said I'll be fine and healed by then but I'll still be extra cautious! Especially slip slop slappin' on the sunscreen :)
I will send you a msg :)

Would like to see your after pics. I am really interested in your elbow area. My arms are exactly like yours and I'm wondering how they "tuck" in the fat around that area or if they go further down the arm? Glad to hear you're happy with the surgery!

Thanks everyone!
I had a bit of a hiccup! A few hours after writing my review after getting my surgery done, I had to rush into emergency as I had a hematoma on my left arm, the pain was absolutely excruciating, worst I've had in my life, mind you this was my once much bigger arm.. My surgeon was available on the phone 24/7 and met me there straight away...
My dressings came straight off and out came the stitches too! Getting the blood squeezed out of me was pretty painful but the stitches getting cut open felt the worst!!!
I was so upset as I've been waiting for this surgery for so long and now couldn't believe this was happening!
I ended up being taped back up, going home for a couple hours sleep, then scheduled in to be cleaned up and re-stitched with a drain in me within 6 hours.
All went well, it's now 25 hours since that happened & all is great.
I've already had my dressings all changed, drain is out and have my tubey grips on!
Feeling so weird having small arms, lol... He said the left arm will be swollen for longer but that's ok with me, he really done a fantastic job.
Little bit sore today but doing good!
So right arm is post op 2 days and left arm is post op 1 day!!!
Happy days!!!
I have added follow up pictures for you to have a look at, for 2 days after surgery it's looking pretty damn good!!!

Thank you, Fantastic PS, I hit the jackpot there!
Are you still in any discomfort 4 weeks later? I'm only day 3/4 now so surely in a week or 2 I'll be great, right? Just little tickles of pain here and there, but nothing intense :)
I'm glad you like what you're seeing on yourself :)
May 11, 2016
H,i i have to say that i have had very little pain, like you Just odd twinges.
IT was uncomfortable when i tried to move my arms higher than they wanted to go, it pulled on my scars up into armpits, i did have a small split on my right armpit but, like you, i have a great Ps, and he dealt with it quickly. He said that arm bleed more than the left during the op which could have caused. It is fine now.
You may find that raising you arms is difficult, dont push to quickly, you need patience or it will slow down your healing. For the last week i have noticed i am a lot more mobile, but am still careful how much weight i lift, it hurts if you try to much.
You will get there believe me but as the nurse i see says it a big op re the scars going from elbow to armpit and you need time to heal, especially with the set back you had on day two.
You are right about feeling good after a couple of weeks
With me ht was just over two weeks when i realised i felt more like me, but that was when i did something stupid, overreached, and i ached and had to lie down for a while. They say 4 - 6 weeks for recovery and it is true.
Goodnight and god bless for now.

Goodness me that would have been disappointing within yourself after stretching too far, hey you have taught me a lesson about it now though.
Sorry to hear that but glad you're feeling like you now! I'm off to Bali in 6 weeks so I really hope I am fine for that, my PS said I will be fine, so see how we go.
Thanks for the info, it all helps! Hope you recovery speedy fast now and you don't overdo it anymore as I'm sure you learnt your limits.
Take care Jean :)
May 13, 2016
Hi leah, i am sooo jealous, think of me when you are in bali, i am sure you be ok by then, dont forget the sun screen.
You are right about knowing your limits, I am feeling great at the moment. I started using cream to massage my scars this week, my nurse said they were healed enough after 4 weeks. I have been doing 3 times a day for 4 days and it is amazing how much more mobile my arms are, i can lift them quite high now, things can only get better. I am being careful how much i lift for the next 2 weeks.
Wil say bye for now, god bless you and your family

Thank you Jean :)
We are going over for a wedding! 10 nights, my first time over seas too! But in a very luxurious private villa with our own private pool :)
I'm online shopping for bikinis as we speak :P
I'm so glad you are feeling great! That's nice to hear, also about the cream, that really good, well done :)
What type of cream are you using?
I'd like to see a picture of what you arms look like now?
Just quickly! - How long until you could put on underarm deodorant? As I use it every single day and went out today shortly and could smell myself a little bit so just sprayed perfume on my clothes, but I get self conscious about smell, even though my partner said I didn't smell, lol...
May 14, 2016
Hi leah, it really sounds great about your wedding trip.
I have been using aqueous cream because it suits my skin. In about 4 weeks time i wlil be alternating the cream with bio oil, that is what i did after tt and it helps the appearance of the scar. Whatever cream you use make sure it doesnt have perfumes or chemicals. It has been 7 months since my tt and i still massage my tummy and will do so for a while as it helps the look of scars fade, will be doing the same with the arms and thighs.
I have been advised not to use deoderant at the moment because the scars still to new. Like you i use perfume and wash with baby bath.
I am unable to shower at at the moment because i had a hole open up in my thigh which was big, but is nearly healed, my PS is says my body is in overdrive to heal and is amazed how it is looking, this means standing up washing, which is a pain but you got do what you got to do. Kdping clean is ot a problem, but i know what you mean about being aware of any smell, i think your partner is telling you the truth. Next time you see your PS ask him when it is safe to use your deoderant, it is one of those personal things as healing is differant for everyone.
Will try get some pictures for you.
Bye for now, will talk later, god bless.

Uh ohhhh... I had a shower and put a tiny bit of roll on deodorant on under my arms... They don't smell now even still it's been 2 days since my shower (hate getting my dressings wet and hair drying them dry) but I put the deodorant under my arm and not on my dressings... It is 1 week this morning since my emergency 2nd "fix up" op.. I'm doing really well.. I have my second dressing change this Friday (today is Tuesday) so will ask him then and will take new pics of what my arms look like under the dressings.
They are getting itchy now though, did you get the same at all a week after surgery???
I ignore the itch though, it's only a light "itch me" sensation but it's there.
Goodness me on the big hole in your thigh, that would have been scary? Glad to hear you're doing well though!
You got arm and thigh in one shot? My goodness I struggled with both arms out of action!
Hope all is going well for you
May 17, 2016
Hi Leah i am glad you are doing that you are doing so well after 2nd op. i didnt have any itching during my 1st week, i healed well enough with my arms and only needed dressing on my armpit where i had the small split where the down incision met the one going across. that took a couple of weeks to heal
hole in thigh was a bit scary when i found out how big it was, 5 cms long × 3 cms wide × 3 cms deep, but it is amazing how well it has healed, my PS said my body went into overdrive to heal it, i was having it dressed every other day and in the space of 3 weeks it is now a small groove which, as of yesterday now has a dry dressing on, changed twice a week at my GP.. i dont see PS for 4 weeks which is great. i had a WONDERFUL shower last night and, like you can now use deodorant, thank goodness.
it was tough for the 1st week, but i wanted both ops done at the same time, as i didnt want to go through two ops, my PS said he often did both at the same time, so no problem.
it is now 5 weeks post and i am almost back to normal, it is going to be at least 3 to 4 weeks before i can get back to my exercise routine but that will soon pass, have to make do with walking for now, which is getting better, it was a pain for a few weeks, couldnt go far at all.
i hope you can heal as fast as me
God bless for now, its good to know you are getting on so well now. talk again soon

Soqy abov that my finger slipped, meant to say i seem my PS on mnday and hope i an start using deoderant again, i dont want tne risk damage to scars, i like roller ball ones and dont want to risk it, just keep baby wash handy.

1 week post op today! - New pics

User Avatar
Miss_Meee
I'm doing really well.
It's just 1 week post op now and I am really happy!! I can now put both arms down by my side, when I couldn't even close to straighten my arm out after surgery (obviously)
I walked into the airport dropping my partner off (flies interstate for work for more weeks then being here) and I felt fabulous... Walking walking walking, sitting, saying goodbye, then walking back to the car (I am not driving still) and then I knew I had over done it, the pressure in my arms, I knew I had to get home, get into bed, lay down and elevate them propped up on 2, sometimes 3 pillows each side. I woke up at about 5am and was a little sore when normally I wake up feeling great.. So took an endone and went back to sleep.. Feeling better now, but defiantly going to be a in bed watching movie day today, I have to stop thinking I'm better and can do things, I'll only do damage so I have to stop getting ahead of myself!!! Which is easy for a lot of us to do!
I have the rest of this week off work, surgeon visit Friday for new dressings, then see what he says about me returning to work the following week.. Working full time hours Monday-Friday, plus driving 40 minutes to work and 40 minutes back from work might be too much for me, as I'm on my feet all day and haven't drove since surgery, but see what goes...
Need to pay the bills! But I know my health is extremely important first of all.
Don't want anymore hiccups!

All else is well, I'm so happy with my results im so lucky and best money I could ever spend in my entire life is still a 100% big green tick :)
Tried a few nice tops on that I have still sitting in their bag with tags on in hope I'll be able to wear them one day....
So exciting, I look normal now and feel so free.

Will upload more pics soon. But you can see why I'm so happy with my results looking at these pics I'm uploading now!
Thanks for reading, all the best with anyone going through any healing or about to go through with surgery!
It can be a rocky road, but each day gets better and positive thinking!
Take care everybody :)

hi again leah, have just seen your pictures, they look great. i know what you mean about overdoing it. i did the same thing and ended up having to lie down for a while, but, given a little time it does get better as you know. it took a couple of weeks for arms to get more mobile and i am still being very careful how much weight i lift.
i agree that it is well worth the money. i like the way i look and feel now, it will only get better when i finish healing.
bye for now

How long has it actually been since you had surgery on your arms now? Do you still have stitches and cuts or have they healed and just taking it easy now?
Yeah I'm taking it easy again this arvo... Was out for a bit today and still it puts strain on my "hiccup" arm.. The other arm feels fine it's just the one that got double surgery unfortunately...
Movie time, it's okay with me, haha :)

Just came across your post and your results look amazing! I'm so happy for you ;) I'm planning on having this procedure done around September and I'll keep on following your story to see your recovery and how you do when you return to work. I'm trying to plan how long I will need off since I do commute a lot myself as well. Happy healing!

Hi and thank you!
I'm pretty happy, well very happy with my results! :)
I highly recommend you go forward with it if you are wanting it, don't to back on it.
I got to the point where I started feeling guilty closer to surgery and thoughts of backing out cos I was doing this to my body.... But surely those thoughts are only normal for some - But best thing I ever did in my entire life and I payed for this before buying a new car & couldnt be happier to do so.
I had 3 weeks off of work, I return on Monday coming :)
Will still be taking it easy, still not ready to be lifting heavy things and reaching out too far, can just do my hair on my own and wash it, but very carefully not reaching up too high, don't want anything splitting open!!!
I drove for the first time 4 days ago, just around the block, it did hurt a bit, so I went back home. Drove again the next day and it was better... Drove the day after that yet again and it was really good.. So slowly just have to adjust yourself to it...
Good luck and stick to it for sure :)
