Accutane Not Working... (2 ½ Months in 70mg)

UPDATED FROM Bulldog228

Accutane Month 3 update :(

So I’ve completed 12 weeks and just in the last week I have broken out massively with loads of under the skin spots and big whiteheads on cheeks and chin area. I’m on a 4 month course because I’m going to Asia for 3 months and now I’m worried it isn’t going to work and I’m going to have to extend my course, it’s just that I want to sun bathe on the beach with a cold beer and party all night and I’m worried Accutane is going to restrict this...

How bad does the sun effect you? Does it make you get more spots?

Also I’m going through exams rn so I guess the stress of them could be a major factor but seeing it get worse at month 3 when I see videos of people who have improved really bugs me.

I know people have commented saying it’ll suddenly get better, but with the stress of exams and my trip, and the fact there is so much acne that needs to go in such a short period of time (1 more month) I just don’t believe it’ll all be gone

Please comment anything about expertise or people who have gone through Accutane On when it actually started properly clearing up as I appreciate every comment as it gives me hope

Thanks guys.

I just completed a 6 month course, 60 mg a day. I had mild-moderate cystic acne that was very persistent. Around the end of the 4 month mark, I noticed my skin really being and staying clear. My dermatologist recommended staying on it for at least one more month after the first month without any breakouts. I did have a pimple here or there after the 4 month mark, but it was due to a new oil product I was using. Is it possible you’re reacting to a product you’re using?

The issue with accutane is that it thins your skin and makes it much more sensitive to the sun. I have light skin and on accutane, I got FRIED in the sun. Even with darker skin tones, you may not notice a “burn” the way lighter skin tones do, but the potential for severe, deep damage to your skin with sun exposure is still present. If you plan to sunbathe or be outside during the day, high SPF sunscreen is a must.

Also, keep in mind that stopping accutane does not immediately return your skin to the way it was before. It will take ~30 days for the medication to leave your system, but I was advised that it will take ~3 months for my skin to fully recover. Meaning, the potential for damage from sun exposure, waxing, etc. is still very present during those 3 months following.
Thanks for the reply, I have actually changed my moisturiser as I ran out of my old one and I only just realised they are actually different (both ‘Simple’). The new one has Borage Seed Oil whereas my old one doesn’t have any oil product at all. Are any kind of oils bad?

It’s annoying because the sun is going to be such a large factor on my trip as it doesn’t get lower than 35 degree C and some serious sun light.
I just started my month 4 a week ago, so sad my face is still breaking out badly:(
What’s your wash routine and are you prone to popping them?
What MG are you on?
You will continue to improve when you stop the medication. It has a long enough half life in our bodies so it accumulates over time. Mine actually got better towards month 4 on 40mg and even better when I stopped.

Accutane Not Working... (2 ½ Months in 70mg)

I’m on a 4 month course as I’m going away in June for 3 months and won’t be able to continue so can’t do the full 6 months.
I’m currently 10 weeks in, 60mg for the first 2 months then 70mg for the rest and it has only got worse...
I’ve haven't been touching my face at all and been cleaning everyday but still nothing.
I understand people say it gets better by month 3 but I want it to be gone by the time I leave the county and my skin is getting worse and worse compared to people who are also nearly 2 ½ months and they have relatively flat skin.
Can it simply get better in a couple days/weeks in the closing stages of the treatment from being awful before hand?
Side effect wise my skin has been so dry that my entire face flakes and I look like a lizard. Had a bit of back pain and a really bad rash on both hands between month 1-2.
Also I’ve been using hydrocolloid bandages a lot recently, should I cut down and give my skin a break from them as I use them every night for the past 2 weeks.
Any comments would be highly appreciated.

Please do not stop taking acctune I was on it for 8months 60MG but started from 20mg and than got increased. I was meant to be on it for 6months but my DR said my face was not cleared yet he added 2months which made it 8months in total my face is completely cleared now finished my med July last year and I am very happy with my face. Continue taking it do not stop even when u travel u will not regret it please. It takes awhile to see results trust me. Regarding d extra stuff u are using, ask your Dr first before using anything else. DR might recommend antibiotics I got that as well after a month on my med. You will be fine. Stay blessed.
The thing is I’m going round asia, there will be serious sun and a lot of drinking which could really mess me up
What extra antibiotics were you on and what did they help with?
You can tell your DR to decrease the dosage to 60MG try not to skip your med so that d acne will not come back in future.
I think they put me on a high dose at the start as I stated I’m going away and it’ll be difficult to do an extra 2 months
I just wanted to add that i was bad until literally halfway through my 4th month and I am on a 4 month treatment! So don’t get too discouraged.
Also, the higher the dose the better chances you won’t relapse!
Was meant to reply here, my reply is above.
I was on 60 mg daily for the first month and now I’m at 80 mg and I’m 120 lb! I’ve been on 80 for 2-4 months. But I have VERY minimal side effects so we decided to put me on one more month to help lower risks of relapse!!
When I say on 80 for 2-4 months I mean on 80 for months 2 through 4, and then now the 5th month
Oh ok nice, did you skin suddenly get better because I’m still breaking out on my chin etc and I’m meant to be going away in 6 weeks
Yeah it was definitely more sudden than I realized. Just 2 weeks to last week I had gotten 12 active pimples (which is a lot on Accutane at the end especially) and today I have just 1 active one that’s been forming for a bit (one of those deep annoying ones).
Did it just suddenly clear up? What MG were you on?
My daughter has been on Accutane for 5.5 months, 40mg a day. She started with mild to moderate acne and a little after 4 months her skin was almost completely clear. She had one small break out last month but for the most part she's been clear. Very dry lips and some knee pain but no other side effects. You have to drink a lot of water to help minimize the side effects. Also try taking the accutance with a fatty meal like a peanut butter sandwich or avocado, it helps the accutance absorb better into your body.
If possible, hang in there a little longer
