My wounds are healing well, and I am starting to leave the binder off for a few hours each day. I am experiencing swelling. Since the swelling is the worst in the evenings and is okay the next morning; I am assuming the swelling is just due to my activity levels.

5 weeks Post Op - drain removed
Optimistic628401December 8, 2020
I flew back down to doctor R, a little over a week of having the drain put in (by a local doctor) The local hospital/doctors said that I didn’t have enough fluid to justify aspiration. However, I was experiencing swelling And pain around the drain site and incision. Doctor Rahban, was able to meet me on a Saturday! He aspirated the fluid, removed the poorly installed drain and showed me how to care for the wounds that the drain seepage had caused. I just want to note that Doctor Rahban made himself available for my questions at all times; even nights and on the weekend. He understood I was scared about having to get another drain put in, and also when I had to go back to get the drain re adjusted. Not Once did I feel abandoned; Dr R. walked me through what to say, and what to do to make sure I got taken care of by the hospital. The drain was installed 11/28 and seeped causing these wounds/irritation. I am hoping that they heal soon. I’ll post more updates in a week or so.

How are you feeling?
December 19, 2020
Thanks for checking in! I’m slowly starting to feel more and more like myself. Hiding the drain and then having oozing wounds, after the drain was removed, was taking a toll on my self esteem. The drain wounds are healing well now, and I am just now starting to leave the binder off for a few hours a day. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! How has your recovery been going?

Oh good! I'm so happy to hear that! Yes it's a journey for sure, I think from 3-6 months will be more smoother sailing. I'm doing ok, still taking it very slow, laying down most of the day, I notice I swell more when I'm more active. I'm still in the binder all day except to shower ... so I'm looking forward to being without it in a few weeks! I'll continue to update ... thanks for your response. Happy healing !

Need to have another Drain Put in
Optimistic628401November 26, 2020
So here is a 21-22 day post op, update. I have been swelling and am still bruised around my incision. I was concerned about the lingering bruise, so I sent pictures in to the doctor. He instructed me to go get a drain put in, the only alternative would be to come in for a daily syringe drain (which is impossible when I am out of state, and nearly impossible with local surgeons being out for the Holiday) . Ugh, I wish I wasn’t so far away from my surgeon. I am afraid that the hospital will screw up my scar. Doctor Rahban has been super supportive, and even helped me set the appointment up. He also reassured me that it will be alright, and won’t be cosmetically damaging. I go in this Friday for the drain. More updates to come.

I'm so glad Dr R is being supportive and affirming that you will still get good results, with you being so far away I can only imagine how you're feeling. We know going into this that healing will look different for everyone but one day you will be all healed and happy! Just takes time! Your belly button looks great and your sides look smooth from the pic! Thanks for sharing !
