I'm on day 6, tray 1 of Invisalign and finding it pretty tough. Iv got about 14 attachments, canines have two attachments on each tooth. I had conventional braces in 2010, treatment lasted about 14 months and they were off by May 2011, I had really good results as my teeth were really overcrowded before with an overbite. I wore my retainer religiously for the first few years as instructed by my ortho as I paid so much money to have treatment, however as the years passed I never got my retainer replace and it was pretty cracked and worn and by the time I noticed that my teeth were shifting again they had moved a fair bit. I had two options, get another retainer made to prevent further movement or have a short course of Invisalign (i7) to get them back in a prime position..I chose the latter and that's where I am now. Will try and keep this short and informative but I wanted to do a review as having both traditional braces and now Invisalign might help some of you decide between the two. I have found Invisalign really tough so far, I can handle the tooth pain/pressure as I remember it well from the wire changes in the past and I guess I'm used to that pain but for me the hardest part has been taking the trays out with the attachments, honestly felt like I was pulling my teeth out each time the first few days this has since got slightly better but still annoying. The main thing that you have to be ready to commit to is the lifestyle change, mealtimes lose their enjoyment as the trays can't be off too long so it's eat then brush, straight back in, this has been particularly hard at work so Iv not been eating at work much at all as it's more hassle than it's worth to take the trays out, I'm hoping this gets easier?! Also as I have the attachments my teeth look exactly the same as they did when I had my traditional braces on (I had the white brackets) so def not invisible. Mouth feels really dry and Iv had a fair few mouth ulcers/irritation from the trays but this is getting better now I'm 6 days in! I don't want to sound negative as Ortho treatment is the best thing I have ever done but I just personally think that Invisalign isn't as easy as I first imagined and needs a lot of commitment/determination/change of social life to see it through, I found traditional braces much easier to cope with. I'm going on holiday in a few weeks and I'm dreading it with these as I like a drink on holiday (not water ????) I think i might ask my orthodontist if i can just wear them overnight for a week and just wear the next tray longer?! Any of you done that before?

With trays in. Finding it a lot easier now, less discomfort, easier to get trays out. Still finding it a pain to keep taking trays out to eat and brushing all the time but can live with it. Attachments came off my front two teeth so had a trip to ortho this morn to get them glued back on. Will update when Iv had more progress.

Hello, your teeth already look great to me so I'm sure after Invisalign they will look amazing!
I am also in the U.K., I'm slightly ahead of you with aligners - I've just put in number 7 but I have 28 in total so a long way to go still. My first 2 weeks with Invisalign were hell but things did slowly start to improve. I saw your previous post about wearing them at night only, I would be surprised if your orthodontist agreed with this. I think for me the best way to get used to them was to just wear them literally as much as possible. Good luck xxxx

Hey! Thank you. They were so straight before though when I got my braces off and I can see how much they have moved so wanted to get them back to that really. I just had a look at your story, your doing amazing so far, can really see a difference. I am still struggling with Invisalign, my attachments keep coming off and Iv got a lisp with the trays in now that I didnt notice on the first trays. I'm going to the ortho (again!) on Monday (another broken attachement) but I think I'm gonna change to metal braces, he said he will swap them for me FOC if I wanted to. I feel like a bit of a failure throwing the towel in already and hate being negative but it's really affecting my life in a way that fixed braces never did when I had them before. How are you getting on now? Xx

Changing to metal braces
fibo1March 22, 2017
I'm going in next week to change to fixed metal braces. Invisalign didn't work out for me, I probably could have dealt with the persistent dry mouth, lisp, bad breath, constant teeth brushing and the annoyance of having to take it out to eat and drink anything but all that aside the attachments just wouldn't stay on my front teeth, kept chipping or coming off completely. I had to go back to the ortho 3 times in 4 weeks to get them replaced. I will still keep updating this once I get my metal braces but I guess if I was reviewing solely on Invisalign I would say that for me it's been a bit of a disaster, thankfully my ortho is really nice and has let me swap FOC otherwise I would be annoyed and out of pocket. I'm sure Invisalign works great for some people but having worn both traditional braces and Invisalign I would 100% say that the downsides of Invisalign massively outweigh the good, the only good thing about Invisalign is you can take it out, but even then you have these weird things on your teeth and the longer you have it out the more you halt your progress. I will do an
update next week about my first day wearing metal braces, I had ceramic white ones before so I am a bit apprehensive about wearing full metal ones but it's only going to be for a maximum of 6 months ???? wish me luck

Good luck! I got mine on yesterday and I'm already wishing I had done regular braces. I'm giving it until Monday and if it hasn't gotten better I'm making them take them off. It feels like I'm pulling my teeth out also when I try to take them out. It takes me at least 10-15 minutes to get them out and causes anxiety and panic trying to get them out. Skipped dinner last night and lunch today just so I didn't have to take them out. This sucks. I wish I had found this website before I got them. :(

Hi Heather, I started earlier this month and am currently on tray 2. Hopefully you've found the next few days easier after this post! As your teeth move into the tray they get easier to remove, by day 5-6 of my first tray it was super quick and I wasn't getting saliva everywhere! On day 2 of tray 2 now and wasn't as bad removing as the initial days with tray 1 so hang in there!

It does get easier I promise. Although I didn't love them I would have stuck it out if my attachments didn't keep coming off and my ortho gave me another option. You can get a little plastic hook tool thing to pull them out, I pulled them off at the back each side and then kind of lifted them over the attachments back to front to get them out but that becomes so much easier when you get used to it. Let me know how your getting on and think of the end game xx
From what I understand, people (and mouths/teeth!) tend to get used to it. Good for you doing this for yourself!
