Neck and facelift with fat transfer at 62.

My first face lift was done at age 45. I had time money, so I did it. Who knows how I would look now, at 62, if I have not done it back then.. Most people say I look young and great, but here I am again, back at it (lol), got time and money. With that said, this past Thursday I had neck and face lift with fat injection. The recovery is not a walk in the park, for sure, and gratification is not immediate, like for example after breast reduction/ lift, but hopefully when it all settles down it will be worth it. I would like to tell my story from day one below, because there is alway something new to learn...

Day of surgery. I was awaken in a recovery…
GalochkaMarch 10, 2017
Day of surgery. I was awaken in a recovery room. The surgery was performed under sedation administered by an anesthesiologist MD. (This was very important feature that given me a lot of comfort, as I am terrified of general anesthesia especially if it was administered by a trained nurse. ). When awakened, I had trouble to open my eyes. I could not open my right eye at all. The pain was severe in both eyes, but particularly in my right one. Severe pain continued for approximately 40 hours. Thankfully it has slowly subsided, and following approximately 50 hours completely disappeared. Dr. Steiger advised to use plenty of tear drops.. The point of this information is that after I did some research, it points out on the fact that during surgery my eyes were not sealed properly, which caused drying out the eye, and perhaps damaging (not permanently) cornea.
If this is the case, it should have never happened. I will clarify with Dr. Steiger tomorrow. These are lessons learned, as we say in the industry I come from. Hope this will bring some attention and will prevent from ever happening again ..

Wow just finally relaxing and getting to read your whole blog. The eyes...I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I had General anesthesia don't know if they sealed my eyes or had to or not, but I have dry eyes, enough so that they twitch and a Neurologist has to inject my eyes with Botox to stop the spasms.

OMG! Botox around your eyes, right? You have this after a surgery, or in general? I never had dry eyes, or any kind of eye problems, but now, it seems that I cannot shake it off! I read on website that it takes up to two months to go away. Not easy recovery, that's for sure.. Don't like the shape of my face, look like a freak, still cannot smile.. Trying to be patient. Today is day 19 after surgery. Thank you for reading and commenting on my review.. Really helpful.. Hugs!

I had the worst headache when they woke me, and I couldn't talk loud enough for them to hear me, because my mouth hurt. This was in the operating room when they woke me. Weird right? I remember everything before I was put out. They strapped and extended my arms out.

Nothing is more painful than an abrasion on the cornea. I have had a few from dry eye. I wake up and open my eyes and OMG, the pain is a killer. Those 40-50 hours of pain until it heals are excruciating. A couple of times I had what my ophthalmologist called a medical patch put in my eye. It is a special contact lens that stops the pain immediately. Once I had it for 3 days because it was a holiday weekend. As someone who never wore contacts the idea of having something in my eye kind of creeped me out. I am squeamish about eyeballs:-(
But the patch save me from having to endure the terrible pain. It feels like glass is in your eye when you have an abrasion on the cornea. Ugh!

Yes! Exactly like you described! I never had dry eye , never had any eye trouble ... It was horrible experience! After three months, I still use tear drops and my eyes are not the same... Maybe it will streighten out one day, but not yet, not one hundred percent... Thank you for reading my post!!!

For a couple of years, at my ophthalmologist's advice, I taped my right eye closed with paper tape. I did the right eye, because most of the time it was my right cornea that had the abrasions. Perhaps because I had Bell's Palsey on the right side of my face 30 years ago. That caused that eyelid to remain weak. I stopped taping about 6 months ago and take the risk that I could get an abrasion on my cornea after I got tired of the skin abound my eye always looking red and raw from the tape. I really could use an upper bleph but the fear of dry eyes keeps me from having it. Every ocular plastic surgeon has told me my eyes will likely be dry for several months, maybe longer. It is a risk I am not willing to take yet. I do use lots of moisturizing eye drops, especially at bedtime and anytime I wake up during the night. I will never forget that pain. It felt like having an icepick stabbing me in the eye. For some people sleepmasks might help. I hope it gets better for you soon. Just keep using those drops. I find Refresh Optive Advanced Lubricant Drops are expensive but among the best. Systane Ultra Lubricant Eye Drops are also very good. Keep them by your bed and use them whenever you wake up.
All the best!

Today I got my stitches removed. It was not…
GalochkaMarch 11, 2017
Today I got my stitches removed. It was not too painful, not the way I remembered from 17 years ago! I did take Tylenol one hour prior and it worked out well. Dr. Steiger was happy with results. Explained that bumps in the face are expected, and assured that everything will smoth out well.
I would say, outside the problem with my eyes, days 3 and 4 were most difficult. Today feeling whole lot better! This is day 8 after surgery. I will try post pictures..

Thank you for sharing your experience with the community! You are looking good! I wish I would have thought to take Tylenol before getting my stitches out! The lower eyelids were the worst. I wish you rapid healing! Are you taking arnica for the bruising?
March 13, 2017
Thank you for reading my story! About arnica, yes, I did take the whole package, girlfriend of mine brought it for me.. I personally don't believe those homeopathic treats :-), I think it is grandma' s tail (lol). I spent most day reading about how to subside swelling, , and the only thing is, to minimize salt intake, sleep up high, and be patient.. Each person is different. Today is day 10 for me, I am still very bruised. So, I am being patient . Happy healing :-).

March 16, 2017
Hi sweetie, thank you for the kind words! Yes, we are very brave women, energetic, and gorgeous even at 62/63!!! I cannot see your upper face, but for what I can see, you look so youthful and pretty ! And I love your david yurman hoops!! (Hoops are my favorite!) Looking great!! For many more years to come!

I admire you for showing your whole face. Most women admire going through this, but some get a little nasty about it, I'm not sure if they just like the aging process and looking like an old hag..ha ha or if they are jealous that we do this, but they certainly can make a stink about it!!! I thought about showing my whole face but I know a couple of caddy women that would mock me for doing this. But most of my true friends that know me would be generally interested. But I feel better not saying anything. I think the few people I know well would defiantly be able to figure me out with that silly nose of mine. Ha!!! I don't see those bumps your talking about, but the last photos I took I could see some in mine..it's the lighting. I was in a restaurant when I took the last photos, it's not good light. Daylight by a window and lights above are best.

I also think that the fat they inject can settle in one spot. My PS said to gently massage my face. Like the when we put on a moisturizing cream. And of course our SPF at all times:)
March 17, 2017
Thank you so much for encouraging words.. Well, time will tell.. For now my face is not recognizable. I wish he never injected me with fat! I have a small face, now I look like a freak with these high chicks , I really don't like it. Hope it is just the swelling, hard to say for now. Only 14 days.. Tomorrow will see the doc, see what be will say . Thanks again. Hugs! Galina
