My implants are 53 years old and I am almost 76. While i don't have any specific problems with them, I wonder if I should have them removed or replaced. It's possible one may have been ruptured during a mammogram many years ago, though it doesn't look or feel any different.
My mother (who is 78 years old and has almost no natural breast tissue) has had multiple ruptures (due to mammograms) of her liquid silicone implants from 1975, but the Toronto surgeon who implanted them originally told her it's too risky to remove them, that the liquid silicone would just spread further. She has very bad capsular contracture but, amazingly, feels ok otherwise. What do you suggest?
In 1978 I got silicone breast implants. I am a healthy 78 year old woman. At present there is no outward signs of any change in the breast. How might this leak effect my health?
I am now 79 years old and I am quite concerned about the blood cancer the implant may cause since I do have quite a bit of scar tissue. I would like to know if I should consider getting my implant removed or should I have frequent examinations? This does add to my anxiety issues. Thank you, Diana
The implant has been leaking for 10 yrs now, but because of the scare tissue it has stayed contained in the breast. There has been no medical problems from it. She does have RA and osteoperosis so she has some kind of pain daily. The reason they want to remove them is because the breast with the leak has mishaped due to the leakage.
