Slight facial asymmetry is normal. Even the most beautiful faces are rarely perfectly symmetrical. However, pronounced facial asymmetries are often the result of underdeveloped dental arches, particularly the upper arch. If you were a patient in my office, I would evaluate multiple factors in deciding if orthodontics/orthopedics could help. I would look at things like the shape of your eyes, the position of your eyes within the eye sockets, the plain of your eyes relative to each other and to level horizontal. I would evaluate your ears to see if they are on a level plain. Also your shoulders to see if they are level. I would evaluate your nose to see if the nares are symmetrical and open. I would evaluate the facial bones for proper development and symmetry. I would evaluate both dental arches for symmetry and proper development, etc, etc. If facial asymmetry is pronounced then most likely your bite and teeth are also suffering adversely. It can also affect your TMJ and airway. Braces alone can NOT solve your problem of facial asymmetry. What has to happen is that your facial bones have to be properly developed and this can only be accomplished with dental orthopedic appliances.
