Cost for reduction will vary from patient to patient, physician to physician and region to region. Technique may also play a role in determining the overall cost.RealSelf is an excellent resource for determining regional pricing averages. As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).
The cost can vary between surgeons and also depends on your geographical area. There are different types of breast reduction that will also influence the fees. For my practice, if breast reduction is done by liposuction the fee is about $4500, for a short scar procedure the cost is about $10,000 and for traditional breast reduction the fee is about $11,500. Be sure to choose a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon that specializes in breast surgery. Good luck.
Thanks for the question. When it comes to costs of surgery, there may be many “variables” involved. The specific surgeon's credentials/experience level (or lack thereof), the specific geographic area you are looking at, the different operations available, the location of the procedure (quality of surgery facility), type/quality of anesthesia provider… are some of the potential variables involved. In regards to outcome of the planned procedure, more important than costs of the procedures will be careful selection of your plastic surgeon. I would suggest starting with the American Society of Plastic Surgery and/or the Aesthetic Society of Plastic Surgery to obtain a list of well experienced board-certified plastic surgeons. Then, I would suggest you visit a few surgeons whose practices concentrate on aesthetic surgery. Ask to see lots of examples of their work and preferably speak/see patients who have had similar procedures done.Be very careful with your decision-making. You will find, while doing your due diligence, that there are many different “specialties” who will offer their services to you; again, I strongly recommend you concentrate on surgeons certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.Again, I would also suggest that you do not base your selection of plastic surgeon primarily on costs of surgery; keep in mind that revisionary surgery may be more costly in many ways. Best wishes.
It takes me four to five hours to do a breast reduction as compared with putting in breast implants, which takes me just over an hour to do. When paying for surgery, the costs include the operating room, the anesthesiologist and the surgeon's fee.Where I work, the operating room fee averages $800/hour. Our anesthesiologists charge $400/hour. Surgeon's fees may vary from $3,500-$8,000. In San Francisco, my guess is that the average total cost is around $10,000.Prices vary significantly based on location. One of my professors was fond of saying, "Don't look for bargains when shopping for parachutes or plastic surgery."Find a board-certified plastic surgeon with several years of experience. If you have medical insurance, then find someone who will help you get authorization for your procedure.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.

Like many of the other responders, I do not use drains for breast reductions. However, when I use drains on other procedures they are removed based on drain output, not on time.
