Best laser resurfacing option for the buttocks?

Question

Hello, I have some folliculitis scars on my buttocks. Would laser resurfacing help with this? There are quite a few types and I don’t know which is the best option for me. I’d also rather pick something with the fewest sessions even if it means the downtime is longer. I imagine downtime may be tricky due to sitting down but I can take time off work as needed and avoid sitting for the initial healing if this is necessary. Which laser is best - Fraxel, ipixel or another type? And why? Thanks

Fractional laser is an amazing and highly effective treatment in our office. We use the laser treatment to help with acne scars, large pores, fine wrinkles, tissue collagen loss, scars, sebaceous hyperplasia, active acne, and for brightening dark pigmentation. Although there are very strong fractional lasers such as CO2 laser, we use lighter treatments for corrective skincare and maintenance of results. Our Thulium fractional laser, clear and brilliant laser, and Ultra Thulium laser are excellent options in our clinic. We also perform CO2 fractional and erbium depending on skin tone and tolerance for downtime. Patients do have to use a Melarase cream before and after treatment to help further reduce pigmentation after laser. Dark spots can improve with these treatments. I recommend fractional laser for incisional scars as well, especially after plastic surgery.

If you are an appropriate candidate, then Co2 laser resurfacing would probably be the best option for your concern. Co2 laser resurfacing helps to stimulate collagen production which will lessen the appearance of scarring and make the skin smoother. This type of laser is aggressive, and so, requires the least number of sessions but there is a longer down time. Not all patients are candidates for this type of laser so you must schedule an in-person consultation with a professional who has extensive experience with this type of laser for a proper assessment. It certainly is possible to reduce the appearance of folliculitis scars with laser resurfacing. Of course, it's difficult to give you a definitive answer (also as to the type of laser) without a medical examination, but laser resurfacing is often used to reduce the appearance of scars. It works by stimulating new collagen growth around the treated area. Regarding recovery time, it can be anywhere from 3-10 days and you're correct - the area of concern for you may produce a more unique recovery.
