I would take some time off from Tazorac while your skin calms down. When my patients get overly irritated from Tazorac, I tell them to take a few days off the product and use a gentle, benign moisturizer. Tazorac has the potential to be more irritating then most topical retinoids. As such, proper education on how to use the product is important. I always tell my patients to start slow with the product, using it every other or every third night to start and slowly building up to more days a week as their skin acclimates. Additionally, I have my patients wait at least 10 minutes after washing their face to apply and also apply moisturizer BEFORE applying the Tazorac. Finally, I always advise patients to avoid applying the product around the corners of the nose and corners of the mouth (which is where you seem to be having the most irritation). These areas tend to be more sensitive and react more to the product. It truly is a great product and hopefully these tips will help you to use it in a way that is less irritating.
Best be guided by your dermatologist, however the use of one percent Hydrocortisone in an OINTMENT not cream base applied 2-3 times per day over two days only can help. Use this as a quick fit only and not a long term solution. Dr Davin Lim. Brisbane. Australia.
