Let me begin by saying that I really like my dentist and his staff. Recently, however, I had work done that makes me feel really self conscious, and doesn’t fit quite right. The crowns on my two front teeth are too long and protrude forward. I now have a minor lisp. I’m also concerned that metal is showing at the gum line and won’t be covered by my gums. What are my options? How do I best voice my concerns with my dentist without offending him? Thanks in advance for any insight you may have.
Answer: Redo Communication is the key in any relationship including the one between a dentist and patient. If you don’t say what you said to us to him, he will never know. I’m not sure how he felt good about allowing you walking out of his office in the first place but this just goes to show your dentist does not have an artistic eye. You will need to have those two front teeth redone. They are not acceptable nor in any of our cosmetic dentistry or in general dentistry guidelines in standard of care. These are two front teeth for God’s sake!

Answer: Crowns should be redone It’s important that you speak with your dentist and express your concerns over the outcome of your procedure. Based on your photos, I would agree that you didn’t receive a good aesthetic result. It’s crucial to work with an experienced cosmetic dentist when getting restorations placed on front teeth since this will impact your smile. When your crowns are redone, you should ask that all-porcelain crowns are used. This will eliminate the discoloration near your gum line caused by using porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns. Ask your dentist to see some before and after photos of other patients who received all-porcelain crowns on their front teeth. If you’re not happy with the results your dentist achieved with these other patients, you may want to explore working with someone else for this particular procedure to ensure your restoration blends in naturally with your smile.

Answer: How to communicate with your dentist So sorry you are unhappy with your treatment. It is very important for you to go back to your dentist and voice your concerns. You are right, they do not look natural, additionally your gums look inflamed in the photos. That could be for a number of reasons but my hunch is that part of the reason is the crowns themselves. I would highly recommend not only discussing your concerns with your dentist but also making an effort to do some research and find a dentist very experienced with cosmetic work. Cosmetic treatment can be really difficult, especially when you are trying to make 1-2 front teeth look natural and blend in to all your other teeth. Find someone that is very experienced.

Answer: Your front crowns Hi, thank you for sending your question and pictures. I highly recommend that you discuss and voice your concerns. The metal showing on the front teeth doesn't appear very esthetics. Ask you dentist to use all natural porcelain and he can re do the treatment easily. I am confident that all porcelain crowns can be done to match your other teeth and not have the protrusion and the esthetic issues that you currently have. All the best.
