Is There and Implant System Best Suited for Patients with Limited Mouth Opening?

HiI have treated a number of patients with limited mouth opening for dental implants. The type of implant is not relevant. Rather it is the technique that the procedure is done that makes it possible. Placement of implant in site #18 is indeed more difficult. Here are some suggestions:1. Have the procedure done under IV sedation- The surgeon can open your mouth to its maximum safe amount to allow placement of the implants2. Use a short surgical guide- The surgical guide should have a low profile (3-4mm is usually adequate) and made with a side entry3. See a surgeon with experience- The position of the implant is crucial so in patients with limited mouth opening, it is even more important to have an experienced surgeon who can work within the limited space and still get the desired results.4. Use of digital impressions- When implants are healed, the impression post and impression technique can also be difficult if mouth opening is very limited. A digital impression may be helpful in this case. Your restorative dentist should communicate with your surgeon and determine what is the best approach.I hope this is helpfulDr. Kazemi

BridgetteYou need to find a specialist who places Nobel Biocare. They are able to be placed into area with minimal height. Guided surgery will not help, it only add more height into the surgery. (10mm more height needed for the drills). Also, make sure you have enough height to restore the implant as well.Dr. Rega

Hello Bridgette,Both are really good, it will depend on your dentist and the technique that he/she follows. The only thing that could give a little trouble is the restorative procedure but there should not be any complications, specially if you choose to do it under I.V. sedation.
