Hi! I'm really confused about the difference between epicanthoplasty and blepharoplasty. I know that some people do a combination of both procedures when they got their double eyelid surgery and I was wondering usually what kind of candidates have to undergo epicanthoplasty. Thank you!

Answer: Epicanthoplasty and blepharoplasty it really depends on your anatomy. There are not that many ideal candidate for epicanthoplasty so approach that one cautiously. Typically Asian eyelid surgery or Asian blepharoplasty performed properly without epicanthoplasty is more than enough to create a very nice natural look with either a crease that is a bit higher allowing for easier makeup use or even a lower crease that is still enough to brighten the eyes. It is also important to remember that the epicanthoplasty, which is performed at the inner corner of the eye, is the most likely place for you to develop visible scarring after your eyelid procedure. I'll attach a video that may be helpful to you.Chase Lay, MD
