Masseter muscle reduction with micro RF, is it a good idea? How permanent is it?

Question

I been getting Botox to reduce the jaw muscle for years I love the result but it's very costly. Now I have seen a new technique that called " Messeter muscle reduction with micro RF" my question is: 1. It supooed to damage messeter muscle permanently? Or it only stay for a few years? 2. Is it safe that messeter muscle is damaged. I mean do I might be needing it when I get much older, btw. I'm already in my early 40s. Thank you in advance for the reply.

Using micro RF to treat the masseters is off-label. The masseter muscle is one of 4 muscles of mastication (chewing).  I'm sure any treatment with RF would likely be permanent but I would not recommend this. Regular use of Botox should cause muscle to atrophy and minimize the appearance.

In theory RF can destroy scar tissue, fat and even muscle. The problem arrises if collateral damage to the surround muscles occur- z. minor, z major, rizorius etc.. if this were to happen you would have a permanent distortion of your face and an asymmetrical smile. Not ideal. Risks can be reduced with ULTRASOUND guidance. This technique is relatively new and novel, IMO, wait for long term studies regarding safety - Botox has a long and proven safety record.
