Can my underbite/crossbite be treated with braces alone? Would it be beneficial for me even if I don't get jaw surgery? (photo)

I agree with your first orthodontist: the most predictable treatment for your teeth and bite would be orthognathic surgery. However, I'm very aware of the risks and costs involved with surgery and sympathize with patients who would rather treat their problem without it. Without a complete exam and full records it is difficult to say, but your main risk is the upper gap and underbite coming back without surgery. Your orthodontist can perform treatment that can ideally prevent the relapse of these problems. You have a grossly underdeveloped upper jaw, fixing this with braces alone would not be your best choice. Find a doctor who understands how to develop a jaw non-surgically. After your upper jaw is adequately developed then you can use braces to align your teeth.Good luck!
